Not just important for their tagging/forward pressure, but their speed too.

By all means examine how the players went, but I think more important to review how we went in the coaches box tonight. Carlton threw up some unexpected match-ups and structures, which we struggled to adapt to for parts of the game, particularly (obviously) the 2nd quarter. But importantly, we did a...

Personally, I think we spend too much time trying to define whether one player is a champion or not. Right here, right now, I'm more interested in what Kosi does for our team structure. And I doubt that anyone would argue that as being anything but a huge positive. We can assess whether he is a cham...

Eel was a real dasher. Leg injuries slowed him down some in later seasons, but Chips reminds me of him alot in his approach and mobility.

Verdun Howell Brownlow up for auction

Article on p.14 of today's Herald Sun, says that Verdun Howell's 1959 retrospective Brownlow (tied with Bobby Skilton, but missed out at the time on countback rules, with medal awarded by the VFL in 1989 when they changed the rules) will be auctioned next month. Howell wil be 73 next month and is se...

So Jones made some mistakes/skill errors, yes. But he still kept a damaging Bomber midfielder to only 13 possies, and had 22 himself. I'd rate his game as good value.

While Roo was rusty, and will be better for the run (assuming his legs come up ok this week), having now viewed the tape of last night, I still think that he did a huge amount of leading. This is what he always does. It's just that last night he wasn't as clean as he usually is, and our delivery rea...

TBH I'm not that interested in BC anymore. I'd much rather discuss the possibilities of what damage Bakes could do in '09. As I see it, the big question is how well does his knee with"stand" the demands of playing at the top level again. If its 100%, he could still do the midfield tagging ...

Unfortunately, we all new that this was going to happen one day, and that a rule change/addition is almost inevitable. Whatever is implemented has to be easy to apply at all levels of footy. I think something along the lines of the following could work: If a behind is rushed from a kick-in without t...

Money in engineering? I wish! Eel was my favourite player - no surprises working that out from my tag :D . Very underated - Strong mark, could run. Got slowed down some later by the leg injuries - played the later years with a permanent heavy bandage round his thigh. In a stronger side would have pl...

Just to clear up some misconceptions..... Dave (the sax player) is most definitely a Saints supporter. I know his family and often used to take him to the game when he was a kid. Top guy and very talented muso. And yes, they always play our song as a dirge when we lose. Don't do that for any other t...

Like many on here, I enjoyed watching the new draftee and young kids' display last night. Hard not to get a little carried away. But maybe one reason we are, is that we've been starved of being able to see the future players as they develop. I know we can watch them play with Casey, but it's not alw...

If we at last have a half decent tap ruckmen combination, well, it's amazing just how much better/faster the midfield players become, particularly at centre clearances, with the ball at least occasionally being hit to their advantage. That's not something we've seen happening much for quite a while....
