Re: What a brilliant draft - well done Saints!
It is important to benchmark this thread . It may turn out that these blokes can’t play. In years to come people - with the benefit of hindsight - might say “ Look, we picked some dud at pick 10 and we missed a Brownlow medallist at 11. The recruiters are idiots”. That is an invalid argument. The r...

Re: Welcome Mattaes Phillipou
He sounded keen. Yeah, I thought he spoke well despite previous interviews making him look a bit full of himself. Sounded stoked to get to Victoria. I don't mind a bit of arrogance on the footy field as long as they can back it up. Petracca was thought to be full of himself at the time. The kid has...

Re: Welcome Mattaes Phillipou
Horrible selection. He’s pretty much publicly stated he doesn’t want to play here. Surely he’s paying 50-1 to still be at the club by 2025. Did he really say he didn't want to play for the Saints? Not that I am aware. https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/south-australian-draft-gun-mattaes-phillipou-makes...

There are no free rides for anyone from here on. Get really fit, work really hard and improve. That will get you a game (maybe) in 2023. One certainty, if you don't do any of those you won't. Everything is on the line for RTB. Last chance saloon as an AFL coach. Lenny, Banger and BJ never tasted pre...

Re: Tsadis / Phillipou / McKenzie
Sadly, we won't get both.
If you leave Hewett to our second pick, he will be well and truly gone before we get our chance.
Our only hope to get both is to move up the board.
Can't see that happening either.

Re: Ratts praised for his incredible dignified exit
Thanks for posting this saynta, there's little doubt that Brett Ratten is in every way a very decent human being because his exit came totally out of the blue and would have been really hard for him to accept. It was obvious when he was coach that one of his big strengths was loyalty to the players...

Re: Tsadis / Phillipou / McKenzie
Just about every phantom draft has us taking Phillipou at pick 10. I say don't be surprised if we end up taking Elijah Hewitt with that pick. He is the kind of explosive, gold kicking versatile mid that we are looking for. The kid has the right attitude and likes to work hard. The gospel according ...

Re: Training- Friday November 25
Both Owens and Windhager love the contested stuff, especially Owens. He is the strongest 18 year old I've seen in my time watching the Saints ( a long time ). He is a beast and will be our version of Patrick Cripps. I know that's a massive call at this stage but from what I've seen he will be a pla...

Re: Liam Stocker training with the Saints .
He's been described as an explosive inside midfielder who is a good kick on both sides ... he won the Morrish medal. Didn't have much luck with injury early on. Could flourish in the right environment? Stocker could play as a mid-sized forward pocket even, early on? He is a good tackler and has som...

Re: What Will RL Do Now That He's Our Coach Again?
I think the timing is right. We've lost Ryder, but we always knew that was going to be very short term, so that's a bit of a negative. Let's look at what he's go to work with, and how can we be better in 2023? 1. He knows how to get the best value out of Brad Hill 2. He has Windhager, Owens, and Mi...

What Will RL Do Now That He's Our Coach Again?
It’s a fair enough question to ask. I expect him to do many things and all of them very different from the way Brett Ratten went about it. And it needs to be. Otherwise, there was no point in getting RL back. He’s already done different and good. Inheriting Lenny and recruiting Harvey and BJ, plus a...

Re: Goddard's Back???
What's great about all these appointments is that these guys are motivated by what's best for St Kilda, not what's best for themselves. They will be fully invested in the short and long term future of the club they love, rather than a temporary gig that looks good on their CV and keeps them in the ...

What Does It All Mean?
The worst kept secret in football has finally been revealed. Everything old is new again. Not exactly but there is a small sense of deja vu. RL is coach of our footy club. Again. But this time he's got his work cut out. For sure. He hasn't been an AFL coach for three years. A long time when you talk...

Re: Ross Lyon a huge get
If we can land Lyon it will be a huge win. Ross was heavily chased by Collingwood Carlton Essendon amongst others. Let’s remember he turned them down not the other way around. He clearly is rated incredibly high in the football industry. The media will try there best to make it negative but make no...

Re: Ross Lyon?
I remember what people said about Ross Lyon when he departed the Saints to go to Freo. To say it was not complimentary, and rightly so, would be an understatement. What I find slightly hypocritical and a little bemusing, is the very people who had the worst things to say about Ross Lyon, then, are n...

Re: Grant Thomas to comment on SEN
GT and Lyon had one thing in common: they got the players believing they could win. Doesn't matter how good you are if you don't believe you can win. And if you do believe, anything's possible - look at the doggies' flag. GT got them believing in themselves, Lyon got them to believe in his game pla...
