Re: Three draft blunders cost the saints dearly
Haven’t read the article - sounds like a lazy bastard just doing the minimum to collect a pay check I still remember exactly where I was standing when I heard confirmation of McCartin pick - virtually everyone in football knew that was a f#ck up except for 3-4 blokes at st Kilda - hindsight has prov...

Ben Long
I know there is a thread re Long, Dunstan & DMac but I think this bloke deserves his own thread. Before the 2020 season ( I think ) I posted that the 2 guys I wanted to see picked each week was Long & Battle - there’s been a fair bit of water under the bridge since then for both blokes - and...

Re: The Hunter headclash
The head is meant to be protected by rules -a broken jaw deserves to have weeks of suspension - I’m sure I’m slightly biased as a Saints fan but I can’t help but think that If Ben Long had been the guy who made that bump he would have got somewhere between 2-6 weeks suspension - footy fans I think s...

Re: Claverino to debut
Fingers crossed for him - I started a thread before the season touting him as a very important part of our continued development - if he can make it - I really hope he can but am not holding my breath Good luck though !!!! Interestingly according to his profile he's shrunk since being in the elite s...

Re: Has Dan's recruitment cost the Saints their premiership window
Can he not be persuaded to retire and given a 2 year coaching gig at $300k ? gets him off the books and frees up a spot and he still more or less earns his coin - just takes a bit longer

Re: Lonie courage
I’m not sure he’s best 22 in a top team - is not far off though - so maybe he can continue to improve and better his career
BUT that was a very gutsy effort by him and I think he should get plenty of cudos for the way he goes about it

Re: Haydn McLean
He was ok at Sandy No star, he was an undersized ruckman/forward and was handy in both roles. If you go back to the reports - they list 11 games he played in in 2018 Was named sandy's best 3 times, 3rd best once, 4th best once, 6th best once - thats 6 out of 11 he was named in the top 6 - he was na...

I'm pretty sure Sandy watchers will say the kid was a good player - I think this is an issue of poor recruitment rather than player development

If it’s only a handful can he be retired at season end or would he need to retire ?

Haydn McLean
There are plenty of posts flying round at the moment re our recruiting/drafting obviously headlined by McCartin But I couldn't figure out at the time and certainly still can't work out why we didn't take Haydn McLean for nothing as a pre season selection - he was a young big guy starring at Sandy, t...

Re: Hanners
Didnt mind his contract as 'banking ' the $$ for the future due to salary cap - which I've posted here recently - BUT I was then reminded of Treloar - if we could have 'retired' Hannebery when Treloar was potentially available to us that would have been ideal - As it stands now Hanners is beginning ...

Re: Saints to change its approach to Hannebery's persistant injuries
I agree with the posters calling for a bit of respect when discussing players I also agree with those hoping Hannebery hangs his boots up at the end of the year - no offense to him but I think he’s done - if he miraculously comes good physically and contributes like a champion for the second half o...

I’ve had it - it took years to completely go ( I’m

After 3 weeks Im already ready to play for 2022 ( that's probably what 50 years as a saints fan does to you) Supp draft another young ruckman - best available - play them Play clavarino - if hes a bust delist end of year We dont need to see Hannas, mckenzie, frawley, gears, Mckernan, Hunter or paddy...

Re: Rod Owen
I played junior footy with Rod and probably played the same day as a few of the shots in the article ( definitely at least 1) he was f#cken unbelievably good He was always a very nice guy to me and an absolute gentleman to my parents whenever he saw them for decades later - it was well known locally...

Re: Clavarino
Seems to be the forgotten man - we really need another tall in the back line - and if he is going unmentioned even in the conversation it looks like his tickets are stamped - would be a miracle if he can turn it around now you would think Which means we really need to find a KPD in a trade next year

Re: Club Football TV Broadcast
Bartel is on the Giants Board Correct - as per the original post - a club staffer doing the commentary for the local (home) team - amateur hour Yeah. When commentating you really have to show no bias. Unprofessional if you can’t. I blame the commentator for that, not the broadcast team though. But ...

Re: 30-14
In addition to the unbalanced and unfair free kick count, Eleni paid 3 very doubtful marks to GWS which were never held for sufficient time. My absolute nightmare game would be one in which Eleni and Nick Foot are umpiring together against us. Plus that "mark"of the round given to that li...

Re: Coaches Votes Round 1 v GWS
Membrey looked like the only guy in the back half of the field who wanted the ball when he took the big chest mark at CHB late in the last - he ran off the top of square and you could see no one was going to impact his run, jump mark- made everyone else look like a witches hat - it was great to watch

Re: Club Football TV Broadcast
Bartels comment at 3/4 time was stunning. When asked what he thought would happen in the last 1/4 he commented. "I would like the Giants to win but I think St.Kilda will win". Well that's really quite insightful and relevant to the game - what he really wanted to say was ' I really need t...

Club Football TV Broadcast
If The AFL are going to encourage teams like GWS to be in the competition they've got to at least support some kind of professional telecast of their matches. That was a Club Football TV Broadcast AT BEST I was at the ground and then watched when I got home - they captured none of the atmosphere at ...
