30-14

Post: # 1891789Post CURLY »

The rot continues with a ridiculously biased free kick count. Also 7 forward 50 frees to the Giants in a close game shows the efforts of these clowns to get GWS over the line.

Normally I’d be livid about this; but, we were pretty undisciplined yesterday

Interesting comment. Please elaborate.

I don't recall any undisciplined acts. No fifty metre penalties, no reports, no silly free kicks.

I agree - aside from the technicality of Hunter using his arms in the Centre Bounces (even though he was being scragged at the around the ground rucks) I did not see anything that I could say we were 'dirty' in our attack on the ball.

We even hand balled in most cases - rather than the NSW flick - rugby union style - that GWS were employing - it was effective in the wet for them and NOT called as a throw.

The ruck infringements were ridiculous. Ben Long was unlucky and there were several dubious frees against us.

Ben Long gives away a lot of free kicks and that was without the occasional over exuberant bump

One.

That's both his average per game and how many he gave away yesterday.

According to the umpires we were very undisciplined in the ruck

For me personally the game was just over officiated...

I hate incidental free kicks and the game was choke full of them both ways. 80minutes of actual game time (in play) and 44 free kicks in that. More than one every two minutes

Just let them play FFS. Call the really obvious ones and STFU. Nobody comes to watch umpires decide matches

I'm not sure undisciplined is the correct word. Perhaps, silly & panicked may explain why our players were caught out holding handfuls of jumper. An easy decision for even the worst umpire.

We did get caught out in body work by stronger players, that's an area we can improve on. Then those frees against will not be a factor.

I thought the umpiring was pretty poor and one-sided from all umpires yesterday. I was particularly aggrieved the they missed (or at least I hope they did) Nick Hayne deliberately tripping a player while we were taking a free. It was disgraceful - should've been a 50 mp.

With that said, a few of our defenders need to watch the jumper holding - they will pay those every time.

It appears McKernan doesn't know how to contest a stoppage without grabbing a handful of the opposition ruckman's jumper! Lucky he didn't get pinged more.

4 goals gifted to us from the umps, some people are never happy!

Two goals from free kicks.

Membrey in the second quarter for a hold which was pretty blatant. The other the Butler goal at the end, 50/50 free.

One goal from a fifty metre penalty, which was 100% correct.

GWS received 7 frees inside 50, to our 2.

That is an interesting one as Hayne was the retaliated to a two handed shove in the chest from Battle if I recall correctly.

For me it was way over officiated, particularly for the conditions.

The ruck free against McKernan in the last was totally unnecessary.
Why pay a free kick when the action had no impact whatsoever on the contest or the opposition player?

I really believe if there is no impact or disadvantage it should be play on.

The other thing mentioned in this thread is the defenders & rucks grabbing handful of jumper, they will ping you every time and we have to be better.

Going by the Curly definition that ANY goal kicked by the opposition within a minute of a free kick is a gift and blatant cheating...

3 in the 2nd quarter, Membrey free, 50m penalty, Higgins hitting the post

Butler in the last.

You mean the clear 50 that even umpire Foote would have paid. The goal to Higgins no one could tell either way but the goal umpire was adament. Membrey was as blatant as you get after missing so many to get one was a relief and Butlers you need to learn the rules.

Good post.

Yep, Battle shoved him in the chest while on the ground just before Hayne tripped him - get on with it boys.

You've got to have a bit of leeway in the wet and slippery conditions.

If the umpire sees you grab a handful of jumper and then stretch it out, you've made it way too easy for them to pay a free against you, no use complaining, don't infringe next time!

You can't argue our frees though they were so blatant the GWS player asked to be pinned. Look at Jack Steele getting pinned for a perfect tackle. How is that even close to a free.

Would you please point me to the directive from the Rules Committee to the Umpiring fraternity that 'retaliation' is no longer to be punished.

Steele hit a GWS player in the chin with a half hearted punch with no free paid. Can you hit players in the face now?

Maybe if you had more feel for the game you'd understand better the kinds of things that happen on the field.
