Why isn't there a set play for Max to handball off to a better kick running past. Admit you can't kick straight and he gets it enough to be still valuable setting up goals.

Membrey kicked 2.2
Max kicked 1.5

So yeah, Membrey did kick better

King has no set routine - every kick is different - like my golf swing

They need to sort it out fast

I also hate the way he
1) juggles the ball as he walks in meaning his grip is inconsistent
2) looks unbalanced and uncertain in his walk up
3) doesn't seem to watch the ball on to his boot
4) doesn't fully follow through - often pokes

Result?
Can't hit the side of a barn.

He lost us the game tonight.

Membrey also had one OTF and his second goal came from the top of the square (due to King’s excellent work). So he was 1.3 from set shots, and 2 of those were absolute sofas.

King at least had 2 from the boundary. Marshall also missed a sitter.

One is a senior player and leader, the other is in his second year and played 30 games.

And where is the coaching at?

Coaching still on one of those sofas I expect.

Young bloke, brought up in a loving home with a close twin brother, always the biggest strongest and very popular. Once he learns a few of life's hard lessons, may there be mercy on him, his mental strength will develop. One may be that people will start elevating Ben in their estimation as a footballer, and he will keenly feel the disappointment in the room after the game.

Needs a routine. Needs to be told to take his full 30 seconds to compose and not kick it so close to the man on the mark. Forward coach should be spending Monday morning watching the Plugger video on Saintsational and Monday pm and the rest of the week perfecting the technique. One day he'll kick 19.

We were the better team, but missed out on the 4 points by missing the 6 points.

Self belief is a hard thing to teach, especially with pressure kicking at goal

Rooey never had it, Tex Walker does

Doesn’t matter how many games you’ve played

And coaching - what is this U14s

By the time these guys come through an elite pathway from 14yo to 3 pre seasons into a professional AFL career they should be able to convert from 25m

I could go to the Local Footy today in the wind and cold a watch the majority of players (young or not) slot them from 25 out directly in front.

After 25 games what where we saying about Rooey's goal kicking. I know he had issue's at various stages of his career but did Rooey cost us games?

I always thought you had a chance against Richmond because Matthew Richardson sprayed them.
Recently I always thought you had a chance against Essendon because Joe Daniher sprayed them.
I would laugh when they missed.
All that effort up the field to deliver them the ball.
Their misses were team morale destroying.

Now I cry when Max King sprays them.
Same problem, tall guys who refuse to watch the ball all the way onto their boot.

Someone needs to tell King you don't kick goals by looking at the goals.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

The only worse St Kilda kick for goal was Carl Ditterich.
He did not drop the ball to his boot but actually threw it up slightly.
Maybe Max could try that.

Fully agree. My daughter who is studying psychology, including sports psychology, said the same thing during the game.

Loewe also said on radio that evening after the game that he reached a point where he himself realised that something was wrong with his game that needed to be fixed. He worked with BOTH a psychologist AND a kicking coach for 6 months.

Hopefully Loewe is one of the people they get Max to have a chat with.

Overall Roo's accuracy was very comparable to the other key forward's. The vast majority of his 17 seasons his accuracy was quite acceptable. But yes he did have some periods when he got the yips. 3 poor years out of 17.

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pc- ... k-riewoldt

Membrey in the main has been an excellent shot on goal.

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pc- ... im-membrey he had

2018 he had a for him a poor year, and so far this season it is ordinary as well.

With King when he is kicking at goal he just looks uncertain or fearful. He just looks to lack confidence in himself at that time Sport psychologist probably more important than a kicking coach. Though he needs both.

With King at present when he is just reacting he looks like a star. You can see the talent. When he has to think about things, the mental demons kick in. Work on that side of his game and he will bloom. Well that and another 5+ kg of musle.

It's all about technique. And you don't perform said technique when the little devil is on your shoulder talking too loud for you to think through what youre doing.
Right now he's all over the shop. Remember he's only a kid still. It's now up to the staff and senior players to get around him and sort out his issues. He can play. He can be a champion. Whether it's the weight of expectation and he's putting too much pressure on himself, who knows? I trust the club will sort him out and we'll start seeing those 5 goal games on a regular basis. Ability isn't the question. Mindset defintley is. Maybe a few weeks in the 2s is the answer. Take some pressure off him. Have a few easy kills. Get his confidence back. We may loose something short term but will have long term benefits.

He should just go down to his local footy oval and quietly practice his goal-kicking technique under no pressure and with no one "guiding" and "instructing" him or messing with his mind.
One hour every day or second day for the next month or so.

He is smart enough to figure it out himself - he knows his own body and his own mind better than anyone else.

He can't go on his own

He has to take a mannequin with him...and preferably one that can have the arms up in the air

You've got to have a 'man'nequin on the mark to simulate game day set shots

Maybe take some bricks too if it's a windy day

If its a mind thing, and seems to be, does that mean he is distracted by nasty opposition insults and heckling. I bet he hasn't watched The Holy Grail. Those french on the tower could give it. Listen to them Max and then harden up, lighten up. Remember its only a game - that effects lives deeply.

People need to calm down. He's not even halfway into his second season

It's clearly an issue for him at the moment but he's a kid. He will improve his kicking.

To be honest I'm more encouraged by the development of the rest of his game than I am concerned about his kicking.

Top 10 in the league for contested marks, took 4 or 5 of them the other night. And again he's hardly even played the game

Let's have his back as supporters.

As a prize recruit forward in his second season, he needs to have improved his goal kicking and marking. I would rather back DMac to kick a crucial goal at the moment. Much work for the coaches to do with Max
