With all due respect Border Barry - they monstered us in the first week of finals and a week or so before the finals as well. they then went on to monster us again in 1 of the following season. And as for the Port final - well, I think that was bit like the 2009 Grannie to be honest. We were by far ...

This. There is no guarantee that Judd would have stayed had we drafted him - look at how players like Hamill, Kosi, Ball and Maguire - not to mention X - were handled before 2008 by our so-called conditioning team. Judd would have been played week in week out, with very little rehab and probably wou...

I don't think the OP is referring to the Coodabeen Champions song, I think he (or she) may be referring to that song which was to the tune of When the Saints Go Marching In, but had extra verses and was often played at Moorabbin before matches, and after them when (if) we won (which wasn't too often...

Kosi having a day out isn't such a dream.
I actually reckon Kosi just might do a lot better with a coach who allows the team to play to it's strengths.
Dawson might struggle a lot more playing in a mentally fragile team, which freo certainly are.

Remember watching a reality cops type show which was filmed in Perth a while back. I think it was on channel 10. They were undercover cops doing real life stings. One of the cops always wore a St Kilda parka when they were about to collect all the crims at the end of a sting. Anybody else watch that...

The night Lockett hit the CEO was written about in a hilarious article - "Why I smacked Ricky Watt" and related to an incident in the social club in 1989 after a game against the Swans at Moorabbin. There was also another real funny article on the front page of the Sun after a preseason tr...

Big bag of goals

I remember reading an article in the old Herald back in the 80s about Loxton kicking a very big bag of goals against somebody - Geelong? South?
Does anyone recollect this?

This. But I also reckon that if offered between Grand Final losses or non-appearance in them, I would have to say take the losses. Collingwood 60's, 70's and 80's, and Geelong 1989 and thoughout 90's were both good sides, and let's not forget, it takes a lot of wins just to get into one grannie, not...

Reckon Watson is good? Personally I find him a bit irritating, and for a guy who could really play, I was surprised that his coaching was so poor. In fact, I reckon he may well have been the worst coach in the VFL/AFL that I have every witnessed. People complaining about SEN being the St Kilda enter...

Remember some absolutely shocking games at Windy Hill and the Western Oval during that period. And I haven't even mentioned the King Hell grounds for us like Princes Park and Victoria Park. We used to go every game during the season and stand in the rain watching us get flogged. When Baldock and Win...

Teflon, agree with you about McPharlin. I have posted elsewhere that I cannot belive the Squawks let him go. But with regards Freo can only go by what I have seen - and as the great Steven J Peake says, I cannot deal with clairvoyancy. Have not seen Freo 'turn up' often enough in Melbourne, nor have...

I used us as an example to draw attention to the difficulties that new coaches with a very inflexible game plan have when they begin with a new group of players. Regarding us, well I think we have developed a culture over the past twenty years of being exteremely competitive. What did Ross have to w...

No, he couldn't. And I suspect that it iis going to be tough going for Freo for a season and a half as it was for us. The question is - when the worm turns for them - as it did for us - will Sandilands still be up to the task after all the injuries he's had? Will Pavlich still be as good in 18 month...

Very happy with this. With respect to the fact that I may be 'going early' it is a far better coaching team than last year already in my opinion - although Watters is still to prove himself, of course.
Would love to see Ayres involved in some role.

Yes and no. The reason it went to a replay is the same reason that Geelong luckily got over us in 2009. They played all over us early, and due to luck, grand final nerves, relative inexperience, the door was left open for us, and like any good team, we opened that door. a bounce the other way or int...

Having spent a night on the booze with Robbie about thirteen years ago with his family after watching an interstate game at Moorabbin in the Social Club, I think it is tragic that he's still drinking. Kardinia Park

Also remember having to play at Geelong - which is a Clayton's interstate venue - every year for a long time too, so you could add that to the list for sure.
