It was always going to be somewhere between 13 and 32. This is betwen.

Is equivalent to Pick 23 which is where most neutrals probably had him.

But yes I would have like lower.

32 and 51 equal to pick 22.

Reasonable.

So that is now $1.9 + Million off our books for next year in Bruce, Steven and Acres.

The dogs and cats are going to benefit massively next year

Bruce for 32 and 51 is a good deal for a 125 game 197cm 100kg key forward. He will either get a good match up, or Naughton will... they both need the #1 defender.

Bruce was always going to be about this value. ie Pick 22 value.

If Dogs had traded Pick 13 to Crows for Keath we may have gained 21.

So no real difference.

GWS deal was a win
Port deal was a win
Hill was a mild loss
Steven was a bad loss
Bruce slight unders
Butler should be a win
Jones ?
Factor in next year's compromised draft and the salary cap space freed up and I still think we have moved ahead.

But we won't get anything from this draft and very little from the next; have to factor that in.

Also have to factor in that we picked up just two kids last year (King and Bytel).

After going all-in on youth, we have abandoned that policy, and gone all-in on short-term.

Our timelines for success has been rapidly brought forward - the club must believe it can win a premiership before Brad Hill turns 30.

It's an extraordinary gamble. But hey, if it pays off, power to them.

It seems to me that we’ve taken top 22 players and traded them for speculative picks

What will we spent it on?

I just feel kinda sad that Acres and Bruce have gone. Like a couple of family members shown the door. Jack I understand - he wanted to go - but I'm down about the other two.

Howard 23
Jones 24
Hill 26

Not exactly abandoning youth. All have a 5-7 year window.

That’s the positive we can take out of it I guess. We stave off bankruptcy for another year.

f*** taking youth.

I’ve had a gutful of this building for 8 years and getting nowhere with spuds like Newnes playing 150 games and waiting forever for Acres to come good (thank god he’s finally gone!)

WE now have a spine and look like a proper club. We still have plenty of kids on our books after the dust settles. Even Rice is still on our books!

What we are looking at now is making it a real chance to make the eight maybe even next year.

Premierships are still a pipe dream until you actually make the 8!

We still have next year’s first round pick - I’d be delighted if we traded that also for a ready made player or two (ideally early 20’s age range).

King & Bytel haven’t played yet so are effectively new recruits this year.

An inconsistent Bruce & Acres and a 30yo past his prime Steven were not going to take us to finals glory

We needed a refresh and it seems we have got it

We have likely cleared more cap space than we have filled and still have kept next year's 1st rounder when it looked like that might have to be traded

Biggie will come into the squad and we still have King and Bytel to debut

We may see King round 1 now

Players like Hill (think Joey) should be capable of playing good football till well past 30.

When it was first raided that we were chasing Keath and Paddy, I thought oh no too old.

But it has transpired all of our targets apart from Paddy are an excellent age.
They mesh in very well with the pool of players we already have at the club aged upto 26/27.

Our only over 27's of note are;

28 Hannas, Carlisle, Savage and Robbo

30 Brown
31 Geary.

So this means we are a very young team, but with the players we now have brought in we have a good bunch of 23-26 year olds, and virtually no "old" players. Only Geary and maybe Brown.

Overall I think this gives us an excellent platform for the next 5 years.

Plus you can trade in the best kids, and they may be gone in 2-4 years anyway.

Also getting a lift now means that we may keep Billings. His current contract was all about giving him the option to go if we remained a basket case.

Plus as Suns have shown, you can get in great youth and go nowhere. You don't want to just have a bunch of kids. You get slaughtered.
