Delisted FA's

Post: # 1765502Post tedtheodorelogan2018 »

Who to take?

Townsend?
Blair?
Lonergan?
Whitecross?

There are a few half decent players not with a club anymore. They would come cheap. Might be worth getting in an expierenced head for 2-3 seasons.

Whoever we pick isn’t going to be perfect otherwise they would still be on their original clubs list. I think we look at the strength they provide and whether it’s soemthin where in short supply of and wether we can live with or improve their weakness.

I think the top three areas that people complain about on this forum are speed, disposal efficiency and goal kicking accuracy. May be a Murdoch or Hartung (good speed bad disposal) or a Menzel (good goal kicking bad forward pressure) might be in the mix

If anyone, Townsend. Certainly in our best 25 but more importantly, cannot take enough intellectual property especially how we sit at the moment.

It was the difference in 2010 (unfortunately).

I'd take a close look at Hartung, in the sweet spot at 23 yo 70 games and has the outside run we lack. Could we improve his shortcomings? I don't know, but has massive upside if we can.

Why didn't we pick him up last year then? He was hanging around a few clubs like a bad smell hoping to get picked up.

We didnt pick him up presumably because we didnt want him. Probably the same this year, i don't know. Lots of changes at the saints, maybe the new crew have a different view on list requirements.
I do know that if the new crew do exactly what the old crew did, they will be unemployed as well

It’s all about perceived value isn’t it, our last pick in the 2017 draft was 46 (Ben Paton) maybe our recruiters preferred Paton over Hartung at that position. Maybe if we had a latter pick (hartung went at 77) we may have looked at him.

This year we have latter picks which are more of a lottery.

Have any of them got the potential to secure a position in the midfield?

I didn't mind him then because he had good pace and could have added that to the midfield. But now after another delisting, there could be something wrong that we are unaware of. He is no star but doesn't have to be. Someone may pick him up.

Played 18 to 20 games x 3 years and in premiership years at the hawks so must of had something. I have no idea what happened at norf but i suspect polec and pittard were preferred. You have to assume he would only improve.

Don't see too many game changers on the list although Townsend is handy not really the type of player we need to solve our mid field issues so IMO keep the list open so we can target more talented midfielders in the draft.

Townsend might be a better version of what Mav Weller was supposed bring. Hard at it, great defensively, is a decent kick, quick thinker and can kick a goal. Wouldnt be the worst pick up.

I agree Townsend is the best of that group, for all the reasons CQ has given , plus the access to the Tigers' IP. The question is whether we want a defensive forward . I am thinking yes - Weller got a heap of games in that slot, and Townsend is a better bet there than Mav.

Elite speed, Elite kick, averaged over 15 games a year for the past 6 years at a club that has not missed finals....no, we don't need him at all.

Not sure he is an elite kick. But a player ranked somewhere between 19 and 25 at Geelong surely can add something to our side
