Top 5 pick...what to do with it

Post: # 1732858Post parkeysainter »

Three options available to the Saints for this pick:
1) Draft the best mid available suited to our needs
2) Swap it for 2 x first rounders
3) Use it to help lure a star mid from another club through a trade. e.g Shiel from GWS

What do people think? I'm a bit unsure at this point. I think most would prefer option 3, but we might just have to go to the draft again like last year. Gaining 2 x first rounders from that one pick is also very tempting too. It will be interesting to see what Trout and Co have planned. I wouldn't mind them using next year's first round pick to help gain a star mid. Big decisions to be made!

If we could pick up a Clark and Coffield type arrangement - I would do that in a heart beat!

If not - it would want to be an absolute gun for the 1 st rounder, or else I would say go to the draft

I think my preference is for #2 - apparently this draft bats deep!

Trade it for 5 third rounders and pick up as many high character half backs as possible

and goes to a private school.

Mum is a good cook and dad is a great bloke.

Two nice looking sisters and recruit has posters of Roo on bedroom wall.

On the surface a nice family.

Behind closed doors though, mum has a drinking problem, old man is touching up the sisters, one who has an ice problem and the prospective recruit makes crack in the garage.

Where's the balance there? I'd rather 2 half backs, 2 skinny short forward pockets, and a back up ruckman that no one else wants

Think we struggle to get 2 x top ten picks from our 1. Depends on what number we get though I guess based on where we finish.

But yes please to another couple of kids with the talent of Clark and Coffield.

No more 2 for 1s please! It is well known and often commented that we don't have any A grade talent. We don't need any more "good players", we have heaps of those. We need stars who can drag the team out of a hole on their own.

I'm sure Clarke and Coff are shaping up to be really good players, but would we better off with a single star player?

Just dont pick midgets...get the best available. Given the saints recruiters are not the best going around then a trade for a proven very good player would be the best option (3)..Surely they cant stuff that up.

Will depend on what's available. If there's mids with pave and skills I'd say get one of them. If the draft pool is even after the first couple you could consider getting 2 if anyone is prepared to give us at least one in the top ten.
Wouldn't really want to trade it but if GWS offered a straight swap for Kelly I'd be in on that.

Whisper is we are going to take one of the King twins...just joking SMS.

Yep. We need a skilled and quick mid that can kick and is a ball magnet. Draft pick or established, it has to be a priority with the use of this top 5 pick.
