Positive & Pleasing

Post: # 1715288Post Rocket »

Seriously, someone needs to tell Richo to expand his vocabulary and to add a few new adjectives ...

It’s really starting to get annoying. Is he taking the piss or just has no self awareness????

It’s his public persona. Have you heard Richo miked up? I highly doubt he speaks this way to the players.

Most coaches are certainly not brainiacs. There have been a few articulate ones over the years, like David Parkin, but gee, most of them are not members of MENSA. Think back to some other shining lights...great wordsmiths like Ross Lyon, Dennis Pagan, and Tony Jewell.

I must say, though. I think Chris Scott is quite articulate and insightful, as much as it pains me to say so.

I couldn’t give a blights tossbag about how articulate ( or otherwise ) Richo is if he gets the results!

I like richo but the positive / pleasing thing drives me completely insane - it almost makes me want a new coach. he seems like a dimwit which I'm sure he's not.

High level studies into the human mind, memory and speech have indicated that humans have alot of favourite words that they will use quite often in different states of life.

Think about it. We all do it whether you realise it or not. In a press conference Richo reverts to these two words and its a natural mechanism in play. Its also a reflection of his personality and what he believes in.

I bet everyone had a few favourite words and sayings as a kid for example. Alot of toddlers that speak English will say "uh-ho" as one example which doesn't make much sense, but it still happens.

Personally this thread is far from positive or pleasing

Its simple unambiguous communication. Necessary when leading a large team of people.

I doubt AR speaks that way behind closed doors. If he does, we need to start the players on No-Doze. It's a consequence of a vicious media pack, that will leap on anything it might turn into a headline or controversy. That's why we get beige, boring, uninformative pressers that add nothing but frustration for the fans. The media types then bemoan this fact, accusing coaches and players of giving them donuts. Players and coaches receive extensive and homogenous media training that teaches them to stonewall. There are a few rare exceptions, but these tend to be those who are very secure in their tenure, such as Chris Scott, Alistair Clarkson and various champion players.

By contrast, the women jump on any promotional opportunity and seem far more open and willing to contribute something different. They haven't been trained as extensively in the dark arts of media, according to Erin Phillips. How long before that changes? As the media sows, so it reaps.

"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

I always thought that "positive/pleasing" were used rather than "good/bad" as the latter have a moral or emotional connotation?

I doubt AR would've thought as deeply about that as you have, cps. :D

Must be a pain in the arse at home
After dinner to wife " The potatoes were positive and I thought the carrots were pleasing "
After making love to wife " I thought the position was pleasing and the outcome was positive"

Did a bucketload of management training , the common thread when reviewing performance was to find the positive things and feed them back , to ensure the person feels he's getting a balance and valued critique ( particularly after it necessitated giving them a real bollocking). I'm sure he gives them the what for in private... but I must admit It drives me mad it's so predictable I've even started counting them...

And the president said " I did not have sex with that woman"

The best we'll get out of Richo on 360.

"It was a disappointing last quarter"
"Looking for a more consistent, four-quarter effort"
"We have to move on to next week"

Easy, breezy, no worries, all relaxed.

Good times when you're the coach and banking the big dollars on a huge contract - extended to 2020.

He has no reason to panic. Why would he? He either sees out the contract or gets a payout that means he'll never have to work again.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Spot on. This is exacty what he’ll say. And we simply bring in weller and gilbert and move on with no questions asked

We were HORRIFIC last week. All the pats on back I couldnt believe it

For richo to think last week was pleasing and positive (his words, no joke) it was alarm bells. I knew then we were screwed and he is not the right man to lead.

Too true!!! Last week's reward for mediocrity, bit us on the arse today!! Honesty is needed after today's dismal performance , not mealy-mouthed platitudes.

The no change after last week and JLT shows how delusional the coach is.
