Would expect Hickey to play the next four or five games - don't believe Longer's injury is just a one week hamstring - and then Holmes to play the last couple. Of course this does depend on the team's fortunes; if we are still 'alive' with regards to finals then we probably won't see Holmes in the seniors this year, but if we are unlikely to see September action at the back end of the season, we will see guys like Holmes, Marshall, Rice and Wright all getting a run with the seniors, which is at it should be.
Disappointing for Paddy though. Bad luck for the kid, but his health is more important - and in the long run, should he not play senior level footy again in 2017, he will be able to give himself the best possible preparation to launch in 2018.

Even if he does not play, it was prudent given the 5 day break to not play him for the full game as that way we had a good player in reserve. And this would be so even if there had not been a cloud over Newnes.

What would have been disgraceful management would have been not resting a player like Acres.

Remember the time we went to Tassie with no emergencies, only to have a player injured in the warm up?


Ditto for Hickey who is playing, but who would not have if Longer had come up. Getting small details like this right will help us to be a more successful club.
