Billy Longer @ Full Back
Billy had a great year last year. He can jump, he can mark, and on last year's form, good enough to be playing seniors. Given our dearth of tall defenders, does anyone here agree he is worth trying in defense - at Full Back, playing on the big forward?

Re: Billy Longer @ Full Back
Not sure if he has been played at full back in his past, but if it was going to work at all I think someone would know about it by now and maybe tried him there before. In any case, I don't think too many teams have a FF that Bill could match up on well. He hasn't striked me as being a 'smart' footballer, and you need to be smart to play defense.
Re: Billy Longer @ Full Back
10/10 for creative thinking. Richo doesn't even want to play Lee in the backline as he probably thinks he's too slow so I can't see him trying Longer in that role.

You wouldda thought, but clubs can be a bit slow to rethink (although Weller and Bruce suggest Richardson is better at it than others). I'm not sure I agree with the 'not smart' tag. I'd like to see them try it.

Re: Billy Longer @ Full Back
I don't mean that in an offensive way. If he can somehow pull it off that would be sweet. But I still remember a time at Brisbane and also a time early in his career here where he forgot which way we were going. Guys like Fisher and Dempster are obviously 'smart' players.groupie1 wrote:You wouldda thought, but clubs can be a bit slow to rethink (although Weller and Bruce suggest Richardson is better at it than others).
