Essendon star Brendon Goddard opens up on personality clashes and WADA appeal
Essendon leader Brendon Goddard has revealed that he clashed with former teammate Jake Carlisle and says the Essendon players are confident that they have done nothing wrong heading into WADA's appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Goddard was speaking to Channel Seven news from New York, where the international rules squad is in camp ahead of their trip to Ireland.
"We just clashed," Goddard said of his relationship with Carlisle, who caused a stir on the day he was traded to St Kilda when a Snapchat video he'd taken of himself doing drugs, which he had sent to friends, was made public.

BJ is a very driven young man.
Wonder what happened after he was supposedly smacked in the mouth?

Yeah, there's been no mention of BJ taking a swing. So did he just cop it on the chin, or did he retaliate? Maybe he pointed at him?SaintPav wrote:BJ is a very driven young man.

*Allegedly.

Re: Brendon Goddard opens up on personality clashes
I am super impressed by the way that he presumes to speak on behalf of Riewoldt and Montagna in the media.
Perhaps those "friendships" may now be under question because I would trust that the commitment of Riewoldt and Montagna are to their team mates and the solidity of the CLUB, meaning certain matters remain behind closed doors and you hold your own counsel.
What Goddard attempts to do, to suit his purposes exclusively because of criticisms of him by multiple former Essendon players, is allude to and promote disunity at St Kilda.
I would imagine that Essendon have enough problems of their own - including on-field given the St Kilda v Essendon match this year.
His persona was in evidence when playing at St Kilda (I would never say he played FOR St Kilda) and when his final 2 seasons at St Kilda were very, very ordinary at best, including because he has the turning circle of the Queen Mary and his disposal was not to AFL standard.
His berating of team mates (running around without an opponent and demanding the ball be kicked to him to inflate his worthless stats) was there for all to see - and obviously not consistent with the requirements of senior players in a young and developing side.
Goddard is all about Goddard.
And St Kilda is far, far better off for him now being at a disgrace of a "Club" in Essendon.
I would imagine from comment on him that he is a very, very ordinary calibre of individual.

So maybe what Paul Chapman said about him is actually quite valid?

Re: Brendon Goddard opens up on personality clashes
Something tells me he ran past Rooy and Joey what he was going to say. Matter of fact I would be certain of that. Anyway I heard it and he was actually just sticking up for the club and hapoing Carlisle pulled his head in. Something we have all said.To the top wrote:I am super impressed by the way that he presumes to speak on behalf of Riewoldt and Montagna in the media.

"Something tells me he ran past Rooy and Joey what he was going to say. Matter of fact I would be certain of that ..."
Unbelievable comment.
So, if Carlisle and Goddard's brother who has been in the media for the reasons he has been are close because of a common interest where does that put the relationship between the "Essendon Leader" and his brother?
Perhaps the contributor who has such inside knowledge could answer that one?
Unbelievable comment.

I don't understand this at all, are you saying that Carlisle and Beau Goddard are friends as well?To the top wrote:"Something tells me he ran past Rooy and Joey what he was going to say. Matter of fact I would be certain of that ..."

What are you on about? Rooy and Joey are 2 of BJ's closest friends and they are on the same trip and have plenty of time to talk. My guess is he ran it past them and they thought what he was going to say would sound good for our club and also may help Carlisle realise how stupid he was. What BJ's brother has to do with this probably needs you to explain because to me it makes no sense.

Re: Brendon Goddard opens up on personality clashes
My impression from people at Essendon was that Carlisle wasn't manically driven to be a success. Talented at footy, sure, but a big fan of the "celeb-baller" life and not one for caring too much about the one-percenters at training or when in injury rehab.
Fairly obvious why he and BJ clashed. BJ is a perfectionist, demanding of 110% from himself and those around him, and Carlisle is a bit more laissez faire.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.
