If he was available and went in the preseason draft, should we get him???

If he passes all medicos and is over his depression illness, he could be a really good forward that we get cheaply and still be able to get the best mid in the draft.

Its better than trading our first pick for a Boyd, as we get a ready made forward plus best mid in the draft/

If he's good to go then I think we should pick him up for sure. He is 26, that's a great age, and he's a gun. Would immediately beef up our forward line.

Some games I saw him play were unbelievable.

Even if he costs a little bit, front end his contract with clauses to save guard us and give him a 3 to 4 year contract. It's not like we don't have room in the cap.

An opportunity like this may not happen again soon and I don't want to go free agent and pay WAY overs for someone that might upset team balance and harmony.

Ryder did the same that year for Ess.
He never did much at melb,seemed to always be injured.
However if he could hold down that forward/second ruck successfully wee then yes.

Cairnsman, I think the reason he retired from AFL football was to get his life back on track...not the other way around...but if he felt he had recovered from his mental health issues, absolutely go after him with everything we have. But 6 months isn't a long time to recover and then have a period of stability from a mental health point of view...any informed opinions on the mental health side of things ??

That's were extreme due diligence is required.
Your right that mental illness is hard to get over. It depends on what was triggering it also. Remove the trigger then maybe the illness will go.

I don't know. That sounds possible thou. I don't know much about his illness but was lead to believe it was depression.

I see him as a 'High Risk-High Reward' type of player. There is no doubting his ability, but as many have pointed out he has had plenty of issues with his body, not to mention his depression. There is also the issue of whether he is motivated, or even wants to resume his career A lot to weigh up for us or anyone looking at him !!

If he comes via PSD there is no risk. It's a win win situation. If it doesn't work out well so be it. It's just one spot on the list and a bit of cash we actually need to use somewhere.
