Summers seems like he has been in the media more in 1 month then what westaway did in his 6 years here.“There’s been a sense that we have reached a crisis point and it’s been going backwards - but I can tell you that the difference from before I took on the presidency to where we are now, we are significantly forward,” Summers said yesterday.

There is enough in that to say that any more chyte stirring about what has happened in the past is unnecessary.

A lot changed with Geelongs review, contracts and most of the development and training was removed from Thompsons hands, and senior players were read the riot act.Spinner wrote:Thought it was similar to geelongs 2006 review in which nothing changed....

Re: Saints Seek Geelongs Help
Westaway and Summers are both businessmen.
Don't understand how things could have got so bad before Summers took charge? Is this just Summers signalling change for the sake of change?
At my workplace, we got a site manager who had been running things at Myer for years, and brought lots of ideas from Myer.
Some of his changes have made our work tougher.
Sure, some of our customers are a bit happier. But it really affects our productivity.
We think he just did it to stamp his personality on the place.

Westaway really let things drift. Summers has taken over at clearly a difficult time, and is trying to help sort it out. Both businessmen, but different types by the look of it. Right?!

Re: Saints Seek Geelongs Help
Summers hit the ground running, which is nice to know. Clearly a president who's taking charge and setting a plan in place, rather than taking a back seat approach. Sounds like he's more Rod Butterss than Greg Westaway. The club obviously needed new energy at the top, and it looks like it's getting it.

There is middle ground to be had here.Con Gorozidis wrote:Im a big fan of airing dirty laundry.

You can deal with dirty laundry internally by addressing it privately and improving your processes to ensure that it doesn't happen again.
Therefore, it is neither swept under the carpet nor aired.

Breat of Fresh Air !
What a 'breath of fresh air' our new President is! It sounds like he has turned things around at the club and hopefully everything will go forward from there.

Well lets face it Frank Costa and his admin turned the Geelong FC into a plodding MoR club to the most successful AFL club of the past decade and a financial success.
Admittedly they had a premiership team together in 06, but thinngs went wrong, a full review was put in place, Fishlips pulled his head in and 07,08,09 GF's with two flags.
Now we dont have the list, and probably not the opportunity for the financial success that Geelong has, BUT we need to make sure the structure and processes are in place, that everybody knows where they are at, and everyone on board.
If players, coaches, recruiters need to go, so be it.
Really no hero worship of anyone at the Saints. We need to move forward. Seems like with Summers we are taking those steps.
Sounds promising.
Lance or James??

Re: Saints Seek Geelongs Help
Credit for once to the Herald sun for a well rounded article as apposed to the s*** that headline grabbing women at the age keeps writing.
I'm just glad we haven't become irrelevant and that there are people in place at the saints that are passionate, professional and not letting emotion run their actions.
The fact that they are happy to check there egos at the door, collaborate with successful clubs and start to develop a culture of professional discourse (positive or negative) sounds like someone is finally building on the good work Butters did in the early 2000s. The fact we have a coach that is happy to participate in that discourse and reach a consensus with challenging conversations also says a lot about Scott, his professionalism and his ability to adapt and work as a part of a team.

Better to be proactive with the media and give them a few choice cuts rather than give em nothing and let them dig around in the bins for bones.
Hopefully the new CEO will have more of an idea too.

Re: Saints Seek Geelongs Help
I still fail to see how this is "news". Dont get me wrong, I think approaching geelong was terrific, and I think that summers is really showing some promise at pres. But it does say they met with Geelong preliminary final week. That was a month ago. Why bring it up now. Oh yeah, another Stkilda story. Pity we dont get commission for every story written about us.
Just think there are bigger stories around at the moment.
Would love a bigger understanding of how buddy got to sydney, or a report on what the hell is going on at Brisbane. or how does Freo intend to take the next step. or why isnt dusty in rio with his team.

As Andrewg pointed out...credit where credit is due to the HS on that article.
The article is mostly quoting statements made by Peter Summers.
No opinion, no innuendo, no speculation.
Now lets see what Fairfax run with tomorrow.
