one bombshell left

"ST KILDA has one more bombshell trade in the pipeline after sending Ben McEvoy to Hawthorn in a shock move today.

The Saints want three picks in the top 20 in November's draft and after today's deal they have two - at picks three and 17 - although that will be pushed back a couple of spots when free agency compensation picks come into the draft order."

found this bit interesting...

"Bains said the McEvoy deal had happened quickly and the club did not have a plan to cover the hole it leaves in the ruck department, although he did not deny suggestions the Saints were interested in Geelong's Trent West."

PLEASE let it be Boyd! We would have to be mad not to go for him! We have the means of getting him. He would be the new Riewoldt--could bring us premiership glory!

I don't think we should swap 3 top 20 picks for one player.

We need to build a team. The best way to do that is to add chunks of players at the same time that come through together.

We need to do the same thing we did this year, again next year. The year after that, I think we'd then be looking to land some big fish.

But not now.

That would be a great deal--Longer has the potential to be a gun.

Straight swap would see our Midfield take a big hit. And only get worse as the oldies retire.

Exactly. We need mids, particularly those with a bit of experience and hardness about them.

Crazy IMO.

Yep that would be good. Lose a ruckman and our second best young mid and pick up an unproven ruckman and a player not quite there yet and pick 17. Seriously if that happens I will scream and not renew Dr Spaceman membership.

There must be more to it--I'd wait until something more solid comes through. Keep in mind, we still haven't finished with GWS yet, and we did apparently spend a lot of time with them earlier in the week. Pelchen knows what he is doing--he won't rob Peter to pay Paul.

Sad to see Ben go but I think Armo would be a bigger loss. I don't want Armo traded

The Armo deal makes no sense in the context of our desire to gain picks. Unless the deal involved our 3rd rounder and Armo for Longer and a first rounder? Or maybe the conjecture has nothing to do with Armo, and the big news will be regarding a deal with GWS?

I like Armo - but in reality (well in my opinion) he sits in that B-Class section. He's an A-Grade for us - but B-Grade in the comp.

If we can swap these B-Grade dudes for picks that get us a potential A-Grade player then I think we have to do it.

2014 is going to be brutal on-field for us. Nothing that happens during this trade period will help that. And the worse thing that can happen is that it goes from being a really bad year - to a really, really bad year.

So for mine, losing Armo and McEvoy for Pick 17 and a younger ruckman is good.

The other rumour is still 3, 21 and Fisher for pick 1.
