Deliberate
Hi folks, Not sure if this belongs here or has been brought up but here goes.
In last nights deliberate against Thornton of Carlton, shouldn't the deliberate behind have counted?
I ask this as the behind was not registered for the rest of the night on the TV scoreboard at least. Only one behind was registered when the bulldogs bloke hit the post (another drama because the goal umpire thought it was a goal - why don't they just have two goal umpires at each end)?
Does anyone know what the go is here?

Re: Deliberate
Some good issues raised. First, it was deliberate, despite the antics of the supporters, one whom jumped the fence and should spend time in the hoosegow (but will probably just get a fine). Second, although under current rules it doesn't count, it would be worth considering whether it should (probably not). Third, the issue of where the kick is taken from should be examined (should be the same spot, top of the square, no matter where the ball crosses the line). And finally, yes of course there should be four goal umpires - it's a no brainer, as we have seen it work in preseason comps and there has not (to my knowledge) been one incorrect decision regarding the ball hitting the post. We know that there was one incorrect decision in the 2009 GF. What we don't know is whether the final result would have been changed. It didn't help our chances.Jacks Back wrote:Hi folks, Not sure if this belongs here or has been brought up but here goes.

Re: Deliberate
But isn't it a "deliberate behind"? Therefore a behind that was deliberately given to the opposition team? Why then shouldn't THAT count?plugger66 wrote:The behind does not count.
On four goal umpires (two at each end) - they can get behind each goal post (with the boundary umpires behind the point posts). If its a touch and go situation then one is behind the goal post while the other looks for touched on the line. Fair dinkum, its not rocket science.
Of course you could just take the hitting the post rule away and pay it a goal or point (or on the full) depending which side of the post the ball goes through or play on when the ball bounces back into play. That would be the easiest solution.

Re: Deliberate
On where the kick should be taken it should be from where the ball was hand balled through last night or a set spot 25 metres out or put a spot on the ground where the full forward should stand for a kick in after a behind.

Hi plugger. I just had a look at the rules of the game and I can't find where it says that the behind DOES NOT count.plugger66 wrote:The behind does not count.

A behind cant be registered without the all clear. As no all clear is given no behind is given to the side. The free is paid before the all clear so takes precedence.

Re: Deliberate
IANAL, but a I believe a deliberate behind is an infringement, and a free kick is awarded with no score recorded. Same result if a free is paid in a marking contest where the ball ends up through the points, but a free is awarded against a player in that contest. No score recorded ...
