Rising Star 2011? !!
Whist many believe that the Rising Star this year is a 2 horse race between Shuey and Heppell, where do people see our own Jack Steven? I reckon his numbers are comparable with these two but I see many of the "experts" would have these two as well as a couple of Gold Coast players ahead of him. Where do others see Jack? I see him as at least 3rd, not far behind Heppell and a bit further behind Shuey !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

strange logic richter. it acyually shows our recruiters were dart throwers.
but i wont be bothered explaining why. this thread is about the man jack.
he wont win it - i think afl marketing people will be rooting hard for zac smith (queenslander etc etc).
but in terms of big picture impact jack has been the man. not sure if its chicken or egg. but from where i sit - he turned the saints around and brought us back to life. so well done jack. massive credit.

maybe i am just being bias seeing as i know the guy...but what about Gaff???
"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."
Not a chance, and not above Jack Steven. He has had an impressive past month but really, he has played 10 matches, with nothing between Rounds 8 and 17, and has been the sub in at least 5 of those matches. He has pulled over 20 disposals only three times, all since his return to the team in Round 17. Recent form has been impressive, that's for sure, but nowhere near enough to be ranked Top 5 over the season compared to the other names in this thread.saintdooley wrote:maybe i am just being bias seeing as i know the guy...but what about Gaff???

Last week against the tiges he went very well though.
Darling did way more then Steven in first 10 weeks, i remember cos i had him in my supercoach team

Completely disagree.jonesy wrote:It's ridiculous that Steven and Shuey are eligible to win this award. They have been in the system for three seasons, against kids in there first.
Should be a first year player award only
I hope Shuey isn't overlooked because he was cruelled with injury early in his career.
Steven likewise, battled OP for much of last year, and still doesn't manage a huge amount of TOG.
It's 'rising star' not 'rising first year player'

Yeah dunno. Just because there bodies weren't up to it in the first two seasons doesn't mean they should get special consideration. They have three pre seasons under there belt, whilst the likes of Heppell have only one.SainterK wrote:Completely disagree.jonesy wrote:It's ridiculous that Steven and Shuey are eligible to win this award. Whilst I think it should be a first year player award, this year I think it's a bit of a joke and huge Vic bias shining through if Shuey doesn't win it just the same. He has clearly been the best all year
Bring back the Lockett era
Maybe, maybe not.jonesy wrote:They have three pre seasons under there belt, whilst the likes of Heppell have only one.SainterK wrote:Completely disagree.jonesy wrote:It's ridiculous that Steven and Shuey are eligible to win this award. Shuey, Smith Z or McKenzie T (the latter relative stars in a poor side) were in my view significantly better performed.
Besides I don't cope well with Essendon winning anything.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Whoever voted for Andrew Gaff should be removed from next year's voting panel.Armoooo wrote:Steven just got the one vote...Heppell 44 votes, Shuey 37, Smith 21, Swallow 18, Darling 6, Reid 5, Gaff, McKenzie, Steven, Menzel all 1.
He played maybe 3 above average games all year, and missed probably 10 weeks of the year.
