If you are over 40 this doesn't bring a tear to your eye then you weren't there...ah the memories

Is that Matthew Hardy near the end?

What I was thinking when I watched it Brat...was there that day...just out of shot fortunately ...the banging on the boards after a goal brought it all backsaintbrat wrote:so who is going to admit they are featured in that clip?

That is fantastic Saint patrick.
I couldn't be there for the last game...was working in a country town at the time.
My first game at Moorabbin was one of the early rounds in 1978. We lost to North (the previous year's Premiers) by about 19 pts but I was hooked from that day on! Big Carl, "Barks", Cowboy....there was just something about the whokle experience...you could feel your blood pumping red white and black!
Saw a black and white picture of the banner once...unfortunately it was hard to read the words which were in red.
Does anyone know the entire text which ended something like this.....
"For the good times, the bad times, the bitter, the sweet...
Thanks for the memories, Limnton St" ?

I was there.
I still miss that place.
Waverley Park and Jihad Stadium aren't our home.
Nor is Seaford.
No atmosphere.
No "feeling" of home.
Moorabbin IS our home.
Shame is that younger supporters will never experience the unbelievable atmosphere we had at Linton St.
Double shame is that the Club/ Kingston Clowncil have forced us to leave and virtually nothing remains of our heritage except memories and youtube.

Tell me, how was the atmosphere and general sense of "homeness" at Moorabbin a month after the Saints moved in?
I'm betting a fair few supporters were saying negative comments and "spewing" that the club had moved from the Junction Oval.
Yes Moorabbin was a great home but we can remember that greatness fondly without having to bag our new home.

Memories
I now live on the south coast of NSW but my kids are all Saints die hards. They have only ever been to the sterile Etihad Stadium and when I try to tell them of my youth growing up in East Bentleigh and going to watch the Saints at Moorabbin, you can see they just don't understand what it was like. I hope I can get them to have a look at this. Made a shiver run down my spine, and also in those days it was inexpensive to go to the footy. I wonder if we have lost the plot - is the focus on money too much. I look at that and I see community spirit, not just $$.

Growing up in East Bentleigh? I can't remember the exact title but on Facebook there is a page on "You know when you lived in East Bentleigh when.........." and it's all truehappy feet wrote:I now live on the south coast of NSW but my kids are all Saints die hards. Some good points there but the diff between where we are atm and the Moorabbin grd is massive, totally different atmosphere , I didn't like arctic Park and bagged it until the day we left it but I do like the Dome..but again it's not the same.Dr Spaceman wrote: I wasn't there EM, but perhaps you were.

I live in Tullamarine and would go to just about every game in those days so you would understand it wasn't about travel or distance I just loved being there..now my travel is a breeze yet thats not why I like the Dome.
To all those who didn't experience the Moorabbin grd it doesn't reallymatter, what you don't know shouldn't bother you , but you can always ask someone who has about what it was like.

I went to virtually every game at Moorabbin from 1973 onwards and absolutely loved the place. But I'm realistic enough to know that times have moved on and the game has moved on and so I have moved on.
The real point of comparison is Moorabbin v Etihad, not Seaford. The latter may be our new home but it is after all only a training facility. For what it's worth I actually like the dome for reasons of comfort and transport, but perhaps that's simply due to my youth slipping away.
I'm certainly glad I got to enjoy Moorabbin, and in particular its Social Club, when I was still able to party into the wee small hours

PS My whole outlook has changed also due to being beaten by the Skunks in the GF..I just get the feeling I've had enough.

From Cowboy to Plugger. Carl to the Doc

Thanks for the memories Linton St.
That's one of the best ones I've ever read!
Must have been electric to read it before the boys ran out for the last game.
It says it all!
