Reasons why we lost the flag (Tongue In Cheek version!)

Post: # 1016321Post Dr Spaceman »

Hey guys, I’m just trying to keep track of all these fine ideas as to why we failed when it mattered in GF1 & GF2.

Leaving aside things those off field distractions that simply served to make our task harder throughout the year, what were those things that came back to bite us when it mattered?

Now many ideas are spread over many threads but I think I’ve managed to grab most of them:

Reasons why we lost the flag

* Negative game plan
* Too many spuds
* Wrong Captain
* Funny bouncing ball
* No Ball
* No compensation for Ball
* Wasted draft pick on Lovett
* Wore the wrong jumper
* Played injured players
* Didn’t play Geary/Stanley
* Kosi (though this may just be a sub-section of “Too many spudsâ€

Main reason was the fact we are St. Kilda...

The magpies had something to do with it too. They were better than us (at least in GF2).

People, I don't think your comments are in the spirit of this thread.

Clearly we didn't score more than the Pies! But why?

Was it those predominantly white socks? :wink:

Others to be included -

RL's lack of faith in younger players ....
RL playing favourites over younger players...
RL's inability to back his teams offensive abilities...
RL's negative/lock down mind set...
RL's played too many players with little or no attacking flair...
RL's reliance on the same players each week...
RL's ignorance in playing injured players !!!
RL's inability to dare to WIN !

Roo didn't win either toss!
No way he should be captain after that pathetic effort. It was the difference between winning and losing, between living and dying..

This could be a sub section of bad game plan.

Nah, probably requires a new entry of Ross Lyon can't coach, of which bad game plan can be a sub section.

Could become quite complex. May need to hire a PA :wink:

On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Dr Spaceman wrote:* No Ball
You mean Ball sacked.

Also:

* McQualter tackling too much instead of attacking.
* Supporters leaving before the final siren.

Players are disheartened because we are moving to Seaford!

Oh and we had the wrong player as captain.

The club was formed on 2nd April 1873 which makes it an Aries, the premiership is always the last saturday in September or like this year the first Saturday in October. The premiership is a Libra, they are not compatible with an Aries. We nearly won GF1 but that occurred on the 25th September on the cusp with Virgo and Aries are compatible with Virgos. It all fits, it is in the stars. We are DOOMED, DOOMED I tells ya.

Finally. Don't get me started but;

Didn't man up.
Didn't go down the guts.
Didn't play the kids.
Didn't exude quiet confidence during the anthem.
Didn't clash enough with the opposition's jumper.
Didn't have an effective slogan on the banner.

Oh. And;

Didn't know how to play the game.
Didn't stick together side by side.
Didn't uphold The Saints name.
Couldn't hear the barrackers a shouting, as all barrackers should,

And that's why the premiership wasn't a cakewalk

For the love of god NEVER associate St Kilda with that song

Even as a joke.

This time you have gone too far!!!! :evil:

David Armitage wasn't Jack Riewoldty enough- And should have been played anyway.

Robert Eddy wasn't any good after his tooth came out. Now should be delisted with Kosi.

Ben Mc Evoy should have been played in GF 1 but was clearly not up to GF2.

We should have kept Ball but could have had 22 premierships if we'd taken Chris Judd and Luke Hodge.

Brett Peake deserves delisting because of his outrageous foot ware styling.

Nick Riewoldt and Milne are spuds in big games and should be traded.

We haven't recruited well in years but they all should have played GF2.
