FF: Out of left field...

Post: # 613051Post WayneJudson42 »

Alright... I'm signing off for the day, and have a question (seriously).

And I'm not shyt stirring or being a wise ass! You know I'm not a fan of this guy, but... This is a dead set question:

Can Rix be invented as a full forward?

Endurance, strong, can maintain fwd pressure. As a ruckman, Rix Sux Rux - no doubt. I recall Stan putting Loewe at FF saying that the best thing was to have him run one way. Could the Rixter do the same?

Just a thought.

If you want a full forward to take marks, kick and create goals then absolutely not.

Max Hudghton (injured) would do a better job.

if he plays anywhere it will be in defence, i'd say. but it's a big if.

i've had a bit of left field thinking and decided that fraser gehrig would be a better option at ff than rix.

He can certainly take a mark.
Not sure of his kicking accuracy?
Has great aerobic capacity and could certainly do the running backwards and forwards that our FF seems to be required to do.

Not too good when the ball hits the ground.
Would be a better option at FF than King if we play Kosi as a FF/relieveing Ruck.
When Kosi goes onto the ball, King goes off andf Rix goes to FF, and does the ruckwork in the forward 50. Kosi remains a kick behind teh play .

Big Carl, I agree, but in his current state, it would be hard to plit the 2

GT reinvented Gtrain as a gorilla "Lynch" type fwd.

Why not Rix?

Would be a better option that M Gardiner from what I'm hearing.

Firstly I doubt he has ever taken a pack mark which means he cannot play like Lynch. Secondly he cannot lead and finally he cannot kick. Having said that I would take him over MG at FF but that isnt saying much. I would take Tony Liberore ahead of both of them at FF.

i know, but gehrig can actually play the game. you need a footballer at ff.

we have a few options for when kosi rucks ... gehrig, bj, gilbert, ferguson, allen, even c. gardiner. but i doubt that rix is one.

No.

My option from left field for full forward, is Jimmy Gwilt.

Is strong, athletic, and a good kick of the ball. A good size, too, and his mistakes which show up dramatically in defense, won't be noticeable if he plays forward.

That's all we need is another big lumbering player on the field.

He has played there for casey this year.

But with Kosi up forward = no.

Trouble is our crumbers don't do a good enough job when the ball hits the ground -Milne is OK, but the half forwards and onballers just dont get at the feet of the big forwards well enough. I would like to see Rix at FF and Kozi in the pocket, with NDS in the other pocket, rather than upfield. Rix has a big body and may take pressure off Kozi in marking duels. I would rather have a player who puts in and lacks some skills, rather than a show-pony who won't put the body in.

I don't think it is that bad of an idea, he is a pretty good kick for goal. Has only kicked something like 4 or 5 goals ever but 2 of them were fairly good. His 1st game he kicked that one from 50 out in the pocket in the rain which Leo Barry said hit the post and then the 1 he kicked in Harves 350th got us back into the game. Im pretty sure it is never going to happen but if it did and we dropped him down there when kosi is in the ruck is going to be the only time we will know whether it will work or not. Am pretty sure he has kicked a few in the VFL as well.

Honestly - was there a need to even mention another word in this whole thread?

RIX SUX COX

Gwilt... interesting one. That would depend on how we go down back.

I recall RL saying that he's got a frame that you can hang a bit of muscle on. Whilst Kosi is available up forward, I suspect our most vulnerable area is down back. So he's being groomed as a backman.

I used to have visions of TS40 being our next FF, believe it or not.
But only after Daniel Wolf hit the post

IF MG had taken the marks up front, he could have kicked 3 or 4 goals (depending on accuracy). If he had done this we would have forgotten how poor his game was. It was a poor game, but he was in big contests, did not drop anything easy. He could have been very dangerious had he hung onto the ball. I think RL should have kept him there and try to get something out of him. Dragging him every few minutes did not do a lot to help.

In regards to Rix, I'd be open to the idea. I remember watching Rix' first goal here in Sydney and being very impressed. It was a great kick. Unfortunatly he has not been as accurate since (beginners' luck?). I'm open to the idea, but not convinced. I'd rather see the Gtrain get the nod before that happened.

The only reason they get away with Rix at full forward in the VFL is that he's bigger and stronger than everyone down there. He doesn't have that advantage in the AFL. Would be more chance of playing down back but personally I think Gwilt will replace Max down there.

As much as I would love to say yes he could I dont think he can .Hasn't got the ability to go with his bulk. Try's hard & can be competetive but carn't see him holding down a key position . Hope I'm wrong

I've said this a couple of times, I think he would be worth a shot as a wildcard full forward. We might be surprised.

It works for the doggies with Will Minson (who is just a big lumbering mongrel who is told to crash the packs & create opportunities for their small forwards). He occasionally takes a mark but always provides a big physical contest.

I wouldn't discount it but only is the event of an injury (god forbid)
