I was talking to the President of the Seymour Football Club a few weeks ago at a conference.

He told me that this guy was a gun and trained with Carlton. His trouble is that he hates training. A few seasons ago Carlton played and intra-club match and this guy turned up late and Pagan refused to let him play. He finally gave him a run in the last quarter and he kicked four or five goals.

But he still won't train.

Gifted footballer but he does not have the required work ethic for AFL.

seems to be an excitement machine, but doesnt look big enough to play KPP in afl footy.

also the work ethic problem is a big, big issue in todays game.

He kicked the winning goal after the siren in the Vic Country game this year.

He could not hold down FF at AFL level

absolutely pick him up.

he'll be inspired to work hard when he sees those around him working hard.

Maybe can't be bothered to train cause his team mates are gooses or his coach is a twaat.

He would only need 1 game in front of 40,000 people for him to realise how worth it it is.

anywayz, I'll be watching this space with interest.

Give him a go. There have been a lot of successfull small forwards: Daicos, Johnson & Allan Davis spring to mind immediately.

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

Why do people keep insisting we pick up smokies in the draft.......

Sweeney didn't work

Gwilt probably won't

Chances are 1 in a lot.

Robbo was the last successful "smokey" picked up - by Melbourne - courtesy of an Almost Football Legends tape.

It's good for a coach to have a team of hard workers, but sometimes you need to relax the rules a bit and try the blokes who turn a game off their own foot. This guy looks like he could handle a HFF

he wasn't a real smokie thou, a late pick at 55 but not a smokie. Was on the rader as a kid and played golf instead, then turned back to football and played in the SAFL.

And from the video he's not a fullforward but a flanker/pocket, doesn't like to train attitude problem wont make it AFL no matter how much talent, and if he doesn't have that he will never even get a senior game.

An attitude problem is common at that level.

Far too many youngsters think they're too good for junior footy. They're showered with praise throughout highschool until they feel as though they have some birth-right to become an AFL footballer.

I'm guessing his attitude will soon change once he's surrounded by Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Harvey et al.

He's got loads of ability, that's for sure.

Saad² :D

Of course it's possible, but imo the AFL initially dwarfs those massive egos very quickly. That is, until a footballer makes a name for himself which then causes his ego to spiral out of control.

The day he gets drafted he becomes just another kid trying to forge his way into the AFL.

A personality like Saad's, when channeled properly under the right guidance, becomes an enormous amount of self-belief.

Hes not a FF at AFL level thats for sure BUT (and you cant tell off a highlights tape)....does he have some of that Steve Johnson mercurialism?...hmm.....

That said IF he had the chance to show his wares at Carlton in front of Pagan and co AND STILL couldnt be stuffed training...youd say hes destined for that famous scrap heap...."country players who coulda, woulda, shoulda....but never did......"

and theres lots of em.

Impressive highlight tape, the last grab as good as you will see at any level.

Bit of Sweeney about him.
Not a lot of 2nd efforts shown.

If he wanted to make it you'd rookie hime and see how he travels.

Sam Fisher was drafted in 2003, Westhoff in 2006
So really that's 2 in 4 lots...
Not a very promising average
But really are you going to get a superstar with picks 50+ you may aswell take a punt on a player with promise.... I don't think any supporters are going to be too upset when a player they took with pick 82 is delisted...
