Took a first round draft pick for Sydney to secure him. Would we have to pay similar ?

I'm sorry, you've gone through all the trouble to find out what this actually says and it really is quite insignificant.

No way.

They ranked Everitt, their first ruckman as worthy of their #33 pick last year.

Third rounder at best for their second ruck.

Jolly #1 in hitouts in AFL, and that is even with Spider polling very high as well

Number 1 ruck duo i would have thought

And you think of Ports, and WC, Sydney have a great rucking pair

Jolly is their No.1 ruckman... Spider cost Hawthorn a 1st round pick when he was in his late 20's... with Jolly at 26 he could play over 100 games for us.

Bah.

Stop using reason, I'm being petty.

I dislike Sydney and think they dudded us with Hall and the Hawks with Everitt.

I hate the swines too but we did get Dal out of the Hall deal & Hawthorn were actually trying to screw the Swans over in the Spider deal. Pelchen made a big grandstand how they would let Spider go into the pre season draft if they didn't get 2 first round picks for him then wilted like pansies when push came to shove.

Simple fact- if we can recruit someone like Jolly, who is in their prime & will improve our best team then we need to be aggressive. The swans are very light on for tall forwards after Hall & O'loughlin & will eventually have to get some youth in. I know the #9 pick is what they'd be after but maybe we can find a way to trade for another, later first round pick to satisfy them.

The key is getting Jolly to nominate St.Kilda as his preferred club & then negotiating fairly with the swans. Hopefully we can keep #9 & give up the 2nd rounder & a fringe player (Roos has a good record in turning careers around- C.Bolton, Richards, Jolly even Hall).

We should go all out for him I think, would be in or entering his prime as a ruck and partnered with Gardiner would be an awesome combo....also would allow Kosi to play FF permanently

We need another ruck and Jolly IMO is better as a ruck than any player on our list. However he is not worth giving up our first pick for - which is what the Swans would want of us.

However saying that the Swans would also be concerned that the Tiger who badly need a ruck don't grab him in the psd for nothing so we might still be able to get him for a 2nd round pick and a player however the player would need to be significnatly better than Ferguson who would only be 50/50 to stay on our list anyway.

Would definitely make a play for him if available. Ideal player for us IMO. We desperately a quality ruckman to take the pressure off Kosi to fulfil that role.
And everyone should take a cold shower about the Jolly / Gardiner combo. If Gardiner gets on the park we'll be lucky. Some are quick to forget that Gardiner has made zero impact at AFL level for four years.

The ideal trade would be a 2nd round pick plus Barry Brooks. That way we get Jolly and the Swans get a replacement ruck/forward plus a good pick in the draft. Everyone is a winner.

I hope that Roos would like the challenge of taking on Brooks & turning his career around but realistically his currency is very low.

I'm really not sure who would appeal to the Swans but anyone outside our top 15 would have to be considered.

I reckon we will make a play for him, but wont land him. Realistically we have nothing to offer Sydney that we would be willing to part with and Carlton/Richmond who would also seriously make a play for him are in a much better position in terms of bargaining power - both from draft picks they could offer Sydney and if Jolly holds Sydney to randsom (as he is out of contract) he wont last until our pick in the PSD draft.

Maybe Ross Lyon's close relationship with Paul Roos can work in our favour? 8-)

Seriously though I would really go after this bloke. He is an extremely solid ruckman. Not the best around the ground (i.e. not one GT would go after), but gets his hand on the ball more often than not, as is evident with him leading the hitouts in the AFL this year (albeit with Sandilands missing almost half the year).

I'd almost consider parting with the first round pick for him (if, as they say, the draft is 'weak'), but if we did, I'd like something extra with Jolly. If not, a 2nd round pick (which is higher than Sydney's) and a playe for sure.

I'm severely tempted to delete any post which suggests we should trade a first round pick for Jolly.

We need a ruckman, but no more than pick 30 for Jolly.

No one should ever trade away their first round pick. Fremantle are a case in point

Croad - debacle (lost Hodge)
Headland - didnt lose much as I dont really rate Brennan, but Headland is still not in the top 100 in the league IMO
Tarrant - completely not worth it, the kid Reid looks the goods.

trading away first round picks = disaster

Three way deal?

Jolly from Sydney to St Kilda
Fevola from Carlton to Sydney
Ferguson & 3rd round pick from St Kilda to Carlton

Carlton need a backman. Sydney need a forward for when Barry goes all Mundine on them. Ferg can't crack it with us.

Love to get Jolly.
