Harry Himmelberg

Post: # 2012730Post Annoyedsaint »

At $900k a year that is outrageous.

However, get rid of Howard, trade Billings for a low pick and salary dump. Pay Himmelberg. Makes it more than feasible.

Can play back, forward, pinch hit in the ruck which he does quite a lot. Athletic, running defender is exactly what is needed and holds his own against the bigger forwards. Can play forward as a swing man if required during a game too given he spend 4-5 years as a full time forward.

Absolutely worth more than just a glance and I would be pushing hard. Perfect free agent.

to me we over paid in the past for free agents such as Hannebery, Hill and Jones and this would be the same. The first 2 at least had been AA. $800k plus for HH see Kurt Tippett of the modern era shows flashes of brilliance but never consistent

He would be good but we still need a fullback though.

This is what we need:

Sam Collins
Noah Anderson
TDK

SOS and Gunby, make it happen.

Harry H from my observations is not playing the way he did a few years ago, maybe he wants a change of scenery, but at $900,00 that's way over the top. Have simlar thoughts about Steven Silvagni who is also RFA this year.

Rather stick with bringing in more youth, in any case there's bound to be a lot more and better talent for the list managers to look at later this year because there are over 100 players listed as RFA plus mature-agers in lower leagues interstate.

Had been and were arguably on the way down/injury prone. Himmelberg is injury free and a far better player than Tippett (more versatile).

I’d be having a huge crack at it.

I’d have a crack. I like him more than TDK as he can play forward, back and pinch ruck. He reminds me of an upgraded Josh Battle.

Personally I think we need to go after Darcy Parish. We need a quick midfielder with talent. Our midfield is one dimensional.

Sadly Noah Anderson signed a four year extension back in January.
He won't be available until after the end of 2027.

Way over priced.

Would be mad to drain the salary cap on HH

As I said, there are ways to free up space on the dead wood we have (Billings & Jones being two examples)

Replace them with draft picks on lower money. Front load the contract, and if (big if with our rotten history) you draft right with midfielders he’s still there on less money to accomodate the new stars.

He is an upgrade player and we surely need upgrades!!!

Midfielders are a dime a dozen. Unless they are the absolute cream then why waste free agency cap space on those at top dollar. Take the bookends (perfect CHB) and build around them.

As a Free Agent, yes. At that price though, I fear once again we are paying overs. Especially with a couple of other glaring holes in side - a goal kicking, quick midfielder & another, ready to go, genuine key forward.

Silvagni & Co., have their work cut and I hope they actually have a plan of attack & not the Lethlean Solution, a.k.a. opening the Club's wallet & paying overs plus DPs.

I get it but IMO it’s a loser strategy

You can’t have ok players on elite money. That’s no way way to build a premiership team.

It’s like if you spend the majority of you salary cap on Cripps, Walsh, Doherty, Kennedy, Hewett, Cerra, Saad and McGovern… overpay to get them and keep them… but the majority don’t play close to the standard that you’re paying them at.

The challenge for us is to make the decision to cut, reduce or move on the players that are on bigger money but for whatever reason aren’t regularly hitting the standard.

In most instances, you should pay your players what they’re worth not what it takes to get them… and if you go overs… go overs for a star.

Stevie J Said on Triple M radio today that he is in the equation For AA CHB.

Or….we can stick with battlers like Howard & Battle.
As I said in my original post, $900k is a stretch, but if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Position we need ✅

$900k shouldn’t have been spent for Hannebery or Hill as midfielders of that range are everywhere to play those roles.

Operation Get Himmelberg.

Spend the $900,000 on Harry, and trade Howard (he have to be on at least $600,00). So massive up grade for not much cost.

Then I'd also look at Darcy Parish, Matthew Flynn & Luke Shuey who are all free agents. Then hit the draft for some more young talent. As our midfield needs some work.

Luke Shuey…..
No no no no no.

His body was cooked 2 years ago
Should have been pushed out, but Eagles predicament means they had to keep him.

Their version of Hannebery.

I like Harry but I don't think he's worth 800 or 900K.

We have four or five talls playing for Sandringham. There's potential to get the next Ruck, CHB, FB and CHF from our youngsters on our current list

Do not look past these guys. They are the future. Spend as much as is necessary to get these guys AFL fit and AFL strong and support them with mentors so they have the right attitude

We need to wrap our arms and invest our MONEY in these guys and just bring in more of the same. Hit the draft if we can't improve the team with elite talent

We offered good $$$$ for guys like Draper and Xerri before they were regular AFL players so we should look for young talent that is looking for opportunities.

We did offer Big Money for De Goey so we should also continue to look for absolutely elite mids if they want to come to us

I'm certainly not ITK so I'll believe you when you say Shuey's cooked. But we need to investigate potential A grade targets that won't effect our draft capital

I’m not in the know either, just the fact he’s done his hammy multiple times over his career and it’s gotten worse the last 3 years. He’s either very unfit (highly doubtful) or his body is done and cannot strong together more than 3 games anymore. It happens.

The other part of me says you know this and at 33 years old you are just trolling.
