Clarkson - head of football?

Post: # 1958191Post Saintmike65 »

Most of the conjecture about Alistair Clarkson has been and still is, will he coach next year.
My question is..would he be interested in replacing Simon Lethlean as our head of football?

A club, or clubs, will be offering him a huge deal to sign on as their coach next year.

I doubt we could afford Clarko in that role. Plus Lethlean is doing a good job from where I sit. Not broken.

Lethlean will be our CEO at seasons end...vacancy opens up for his current COO role.

One minute Clarkson is a master coach coming to St.Kilda, next minute, he's running a football department. He must be desperate to get to St.Kilda.
Send him to the GCS first for three years. If we don't win a flag in 3 years, get him and King then.

Indeed. For God's sake, enough with the Messiah stuff.

We have a very good coach who has an excellent relationship with his players and everyone else at the club.

Why would anyone risk blowing that up? It'd be like leaving your loyal and lovely wife for the blonde with big tits who's offering you a good time. We all know how that ends.

Remember the last time Ratten was dumped for a 'Supercoach'? How did that work out for Carlton?

Ratten is yet to be considered a good coach

If we make a prelim this season

He would be considered that

A great thought Mike, but I think Clarkson loves coaching and wants to return in that role. That plus there would be probably 500-700k difference in salary.

I’ve heard Clarkson state he’s open to a position behind the scenes…re: salary, a COO would be on excellent money!

Presently the Coach of the year award tally would probably have Ratts, Longmuir and Dew in the top 3.

Paul Roos didn’t build the Melbourne premiership team

The recruiter and list manager did

Their drafting from Gawn to Viney to Petracca and Brayshaw to Oliver to Jackson and Pickett

And their trading for May and Lever and Langdon

Premiership lists are build by recruiting and trading

Not suggesting Ratten be replaced at all…just looking outside the square of Clarko potentially filling the soon to be vacant head of football position!

Considering the team is currently 8-3, I would assume we’ll be seeing some September action and Ratten will have his contract renewed.

Re Clarkson: all signs point to him landing a high paying job as a head coach in 2023. GWS, GCS and Essendon are perhaps the front runners, at this stage. I honestly can’t imagine him going after a head of football position at any club. But you never know! It’s going to be fascinating to see where he winds up going to.

From the melbourne age.

"St Kilda have delivered the first serious rejection to the spectre of Alastair Clarkson, with the possibility his “good fit” options will be limited should he decide to return to coaching next season."

"He will come back in, no question. Alastair Clarkson is worth an exorbitant amount of money with his knowledge and the IP [intellectual property] he has, but he is that sort of guy, like most of us are, that will take less to make sure we get the right people around us. Guys like Alastair Clarkson don’t grow on trees,” Hardwick said.

That is true, but the Saints, for one, have shown faith in a tree of a different kind."

Interesting article.

We’re probably better served with a very good assistant coach or senior assistant to provide more support, when allowed.

That might mean off loading someone but maybe the club are very happy with the coaching staff as is. Unless you have inside information, it’s impossible to tell.
