Elite A graders.

Post: # 1947224Post saynta »

I think we are a bit shy to call any of our players A graders.

But I heard Roo say last week that Gresham is an elite A grader. I tend to agree.

I think we now have 5 A graders.

Steele, King, Gresham, Sinclair and Paddy.

Ross , Crouch, Hill and Jones are all B+. Members A-.

Steele and Sinclair are A, Gresham is an A small forward but not mid (disposal below average).

King is very close to A, could get there this year. Paddy not quite A but probably most important player to the team.

Crouch and Membrey next best.

Gresham’s an A-grade mid/forward for mine. Can turn games m bursts in the middle and go forward and cause a lot of damage.

So glad he hasn’t been pigeon-holed as merely a clever small forward. He is much more valuable than that as a midfield playmaker.

From afl.com.au

"But a month into 2022, the 2015 first-round pick is showing why he could prove to be St Kilda's most valuable player by the end of the season, kicking four classy goals to go with 20 disposals in another dazzling display that highlights his A-grade talent."

They all look fitter because they are.

From The Hun.

"And they are fit.

In final quarters the past two weeks, they have kicked 14.3 to 4.2.

Since that round 15 summit in Sydney in June last year, the Saints are 8-5.

It’s not premiership-contending footy just yet, but before the summit, they were 5-8 and spiralling.

King is a gun, but the harder work is being done further up the field.
Max King is joint leader in the Coleman Medal with 13 goals. "

You contradict Rooey all the time Stinger, but hypocrisy has always been one of your most defining features!

I’m happy to have my own opinion instead of just parroting others. Gresh misses too many simple passes by foot to be an elite mid, keep him in the forward half where he can snap a few goals.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'd much rather the hype be kept down on our players.

Hype leads to big contract requests, the kind we've been too guilty of handing out in the past.

We've got a couple of A-graders now. You can figure them out. But no need for us to add to the talk; let them win a premiership before they come asking for big upgrades.

Until then, let's keep the powder dry, and use that cap space to chase Ben King and whoever else can help us win more flags.

Good call. I’ve taken to describing us as something like, “A cobbled together moneyball team with little apparent elite talent and battlers and scrubbers on every line”.

That is how it actually felt after the round 1 Collingwood loss and how it will feel after our next bad loss.

In a sense it’s true, though. Max King is a burgeoning superstar I guess, but Steele - for example - though a real gun, isn’t spoken in the same breath as a Bontempelli, Petracca, Cripps or Dangerfield.

We are definitely a cobbled together list from many unlikely sources. We certainly have some good players - DMac, for example - who fly under the radar and have been regarded as battlers and scrubbers, even among our own fans.

Underdog status is a good thing to have for us I think. Lowers expectations. The Demons on the other hand .., it’s their flag to lose.

Strong argument can be mounted for Membrey to be in the A grade category…4-5 shots at goal each week is impressive!!
Also his work rate and score involvements right up there.
Reckon Higgins will also be in the conversation by seasons end.

If we win more games than we lose and Steele keeps playing the way he has for the past two years, he will win the browlow.

I think there are two categories - A grade and elite.

For mine, we at present only have one elite player and that’s Steele.

Sinclair, King, Gresh, Hill, Crouch and Membrey are A grade and at least 3 of them could become elite.

Then we have Marshall, Jones and Clarke who are B grade but could become A grade.

The time for Billings and Ross to become A grade has probably come and gone.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Rooey says Sinclair is elite, so that is good enough for me.
