Sandringham practice match

Post: # 1941102Post Impatient Sainter »

Just wondering if anyone else saw the Sandringham game that give a match report?

Below is a snippet from SaintJunior on BF.

Sandy had 11 St Kilda players plus Lienert playing .

Long put on pressure playing as a small forward . But to be honest nothing seems to come natural to him runs to the wrong spot turns into trouble . Laid a couple of fantastic tackles and kicked 1 goal 1 from them . But overall seems to take wrong option and run into space of other forwards.

Kent got a heap of the ball but was wasteful in front of goal. Played a bit on ball and was excellent with centre clearances . But his ball use was not great , just seems to bang it on the boot

Adams played down back, did. It notice him a lot but appears to be a nice kick

Allison , played down back and was then moved to the wing. I will be brutally honest and say I have no idea how he was picked at pick 26. Took a couple of nice marks and then shanked both kicks. Had a set shot from about forty and didn’t get the distance .

Highmore was excellent until he went off.

Connolly played okay, has so much time when her get a the footy and uses it okay. Needs to work on his one on one work as was beaten in the contest a few times.

Campbell dominated the game , is a dominant player at this level . Would have been in our best couple of players . Only knock is because he is so strong he just grabs the ball out of the ruck which he did numerous times but then fails to get away a clean possession. But clearly above this level.

Joyce played full back. He gets a bit of the ball and is tough in the contest but is nearly always trailing his opponent resulting in a few free kicks against.

Heath, very impressive . Did not dominate but does some things where you just think to yourself this kid is going to be good. I remember watching a young Peter Everiit play his first reserves game at the old Lakeside oval and left thinking we have a player here and left yesterday thinking the same about Heath. Took marks in a pack and on the lead as a forward and around the ground as a ruck. Has good hands is a nice kick and has a bit of aggression and passion in him. Will need to work on his endurance levels and ruck craft but was really impressed by him.

Peris played down back, for out marked once in the goal square but for a little player he is tough , really goes in hard. If our players can realise to give him the hands he will be a weapon. Has good quick hands in the contest and obviously is super quick. At one stage he won a contest on the wing kicked the ball forward kept running leaving his opponent too dead near all other players to his kick picked it up put ten metres on everyone and hit a pass to Heath . It was unbelievable play.

Kyle started well hit a fair bit of the ball but then drifted out of the game a bit . His defensive pressure is outstanding . He has the tools , he is fast and can jump so has the X factor .

Lienert started ion the wing then swapped with Allison. Beautiful kick of the ball , is a bit too good for this level but he appears to be more of a half back / wing than a key back. If we put him on our list he would not be the worst player going around and would be a steady enough player. His kicking is an absolute weapon he breaks the lines .

Yep, I agree with most of that. Highmore and Joyce were standouts in the first quarter. It was very windy which affected the skills. Disagree about Allison, they’re trying to make him into a backman so he’s learning.

Good. Appreciate your post. Good to see positive comments re Joyce and your take on Allison. Poor kid has had few games in which to develop due to covid these past two years.

A fact a few don't make any allowance for.

Thanks Tony.

Hopefully as suggested in time Allison can turn into a key defender.

Do you think Kent is any chance to fill in, in the midfield at the top level.

Dean busts his guts but he’s not clean. Love his effort but not in the best 22.

Yes he makes too many handling and disposal errors. Not reliable with the ball in hand and when he's played seniors hasn't had much of it either.
