Higgins' mindset?

Post: # 1906857Post Enrico_Misso »

He marks with (I think) about 1 min 20 to go.
A goal puts us in front.

2 options

Option A
Milk the clock.
Kick the goal.
Then with 50 secs left we try to bottle the ball up in the centre, get numbers behind the ball and run the clock down for a win.

Option B
Gee what if I miss?
I'll quickly go back and come straight in for the kick.
That way if I miss we still might have one more chance to snatch it.

Option A is the positive mindset.
Of course he took option B which meant he knew he was going to miss which became self fulfilling.

Another example of our no- confidence footy.

Did he hurry it up because the adrenalin was still on, and he thought if he stopped and settled, that gives time for the little voice in his head to give him the willies.

1 goal 6 behinds means Higgins was off all game, not just at the end.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

He had no routine. Seemed to have wanted to get it over with.

It’s all pretty rushed these days.

I can't believe with all the sports psychologists etc, that a basic routine that players defer to isn't compulsory.

Its aim is precisely to take out of the equation all of the variables that get in the way of a successful set shot.

Lloyd's throwing the grass in the air had nothing to do with the wind direction etc and everything to do with rhythm and routine.

We are so ad hoc, that anything goes. They should have it down to precision.
As much as he s***s me, Rafael Nadal before a serve....all that stuff works because it is an automated routine.

Mark Ball

Identify mark

3 Deep Breaths

Go back 15 steps

Line up shoulders with goals

Throw grass

Close eyes and visualise kick

1 deep breath

Open eyes

Fine tune ball position

Lower Head

Run in

Kick through the ball

Etc

Whatever it takes
