He's a legend one of the greatest to don a Saints jumper . I have posted this before but had the pleasure of him coming to my house for breakfast I still pinch myself such great bloke.

I think he is the nearest thing to the complete footballer.
Apart from Plugger he is the player that has given me the most pleasure over more than 50 years.

- great evasive ability

- fair
- and a hell of a nice guy
I remember after he got that long term suspension for kneeing Dermott (who was trying to choke him) - at the B&F that year at Moorabbin he apologised for losing his cool and went round every table and shook everyones hand.
On another occasion we were billeting a 16 year old aboriginal boy from the Tiwi islands who was down for a schoolboy carnival at Glenferrie. I asked Nicky if he had a minute to say high to him after training but he generously chatted to him for ages and took him into the change rooms to meet the other players.
About the only things Nicky couldn't do was ruck, win a one on one wrestle with a monster defender, and manage his money.
