OK

In a game we should have won, Round 19 2002

Saints 15:11-101 V Geelong 16:6-102
We kept them scoreless in the last quarter while we booted 6:1

Who was our spark in the forward line kicking 4 goals for the match, with 2 in the last quarter?

AND

What unlikely player did Geelong put on him in the last quarter?

I think the answer to the first part of the question is Daniel Wulf. Probably the best game he played for the club.

As for the second part of the question, I can only guess.

Ben Graham?

Yes to the first part

but no to the second.....

(I thought the first question might be too easy that's why I threw in a curly one)

You are on the right track though...

The point is Wulf is very hard to match up when he is on song

Have another go....

No Scarlett suffered cramp in both calf muscles and had to be benched.

He did come back however and was minding Loewe.

You were closer with your last pick (plays forward)

Both Graham and Scarlett played down back

OK What year did the Saints win only 2 games and they were both against the same team.
What was the home ground of the opposition.

Well thats got me stumped.. The Saints have only won just 2 games in

1909 (won 3, but lost points re players eligibility)

1911

1920

1945

1948

1952

1986

2000

all of which were wins against two different sides

You have obviously checked the stats StFid but I always thought that we beat Richmond twice in 86.

Could be just my fading memory. We definitely beat them at Moorabbin and I can't remember beating them at the MCG so therefore we could only have beaten them at Waverley. But then again I can't remember it, even though I would have been there.

In 1986 we beat Melbourne and Richmond both at Moorabbin

This also has me stumped.
I have looked at the stats of every single season.
Is this a trick question? was it in the old vfa days of 1873-1896?

This is actually an interesting trivia question itself.

Sorry for jumping in but what was so significant about the Bulldogs win in the last round?

I presume we are talking about 1985?

Is it because it was our only win at Moorabbin for the year.

Having beaten Fitzroy at Waverley and Victoria Park

Thats right, I remember the hype before that Footscray game because for the first time ever it looked like we would go through a season without winning a game at Moorabbin.

The win was a barnstorming finish and was quite unexpected as Footscray ended up finishing third that year.

It was also our biggest win for the year...

Round 22 v Western Bulldogs 12.12 (84) to 8.18 (66) by 18 points at Moorabbin Oval
Round 16 v Fitzroy 18.10 (118) to 16.13 (109) by 9 points at Victoria Park
Round 5 v Fitzroy 19.12 (126) to 18.14 (122) by 4 points at Waverley Park
