Expect the AFL to do what they have in the past.

These two clubs will be provided with pre-draft picks.
They will be given draft zones - West Sydney will be given all of NSW just like Sydney got, Gold Coast wil be given all of Queensland and the Northern Territory just like Brisbane got.

These measures only generate young players who will develop.

They also need experienced players.
They will be allowed to take players who are out of contract in return for compensatory draft picks.
This will be enhanced by generous salary caps. - e.g. Gold Coast could offer Riewoldt 1.5 million.
The pre draft picks and draft zones mean that all the top junior footballers throughout Australia will be destined for West Sydney or Gold Coast.
EXCEPT those who are traded voluntarily.
West Sydney and Gold Coast will be allowed to trade their draft picks for experienced players.
If any club wants to recruit a decent junior they will have to deal with these two clubs and trade a quality player in return.
Otherwise first round draft picks of the original 16 clubs will be equal to normal third round draft picks.
The generous salary caps and trading of draft picks will enable the two clubs to recruit squads containing quality experienced players.

I find it a little juvenile for someone to so profoundly abuse the AFL and its clubs when they are on the outside. I am sure the Presidents knew what they were doing when they voted, they were obviously elected to their positions for a reason.

The expansion could definitely hurt clubs in terms of drafts and big dollar offers that will be hard to match, but I really do not think the Presidents would overlook this fact. We can hardly claim to be more enlightened that those in the decision making process who regularly talk to the AFL and are privy to FAR more information than what is presented to the public.

Kick up a storm if you must, but don't come out all high and mighty when you are clearly someone on the outside looking in and have no idea how the AFL is run and all the factors that go into the decision-making process.

Us forumites can only speculate, so stop bagging each other out, especially considering that we are not in a position to do so with any acuity. Let's focus on 08 and let the board focus on the AFL and the issues of the expansion, it is, after all, their job.
