Nathan Buckley on Ch 7 !!

Post: # 519180Post Eastern »

I've only watched the replay of the 1st Quarter of last night's game but it is very clear why Ch 7 went after Buckley. The bits I have seen suggest that he is very good and will only get better.

When you compare him with David Schwarz, he looks even better. Could this be the beginning of the end for AMATEUR OX on 7 ?

one of the best footy brains around, not an out there personality, but thats all you want from expert comments, or special comments or whatever they are called these days. none of the bullcrap, just exactly what is happening

Never been a fan but thought he was fantastic in the box last night. Especially when he was giving us a great wrap for our tackling and how well we will go this year.

Seemed to make the whole channel 7 thing easier to bare as well.

Speaking of media, did anyone hear Aaron Hamill's special comments debut on MMM last night?

Found the link through here at about 10 o'clock and the broadcast finished at about 10.05!!

Just wondering how he went.

Probably the best special comments man going around at the moment. He doesn't say anything revolutionary, but there are just a few little things in each game that you don't pick up on that he mentions.

Always found him a bit flat and deadpan when interviewed but must admit his special comments were very professional and was a pretty good debut.

Lance or James??

I don't mind him but I think he's a little biased in his comments on some teams and players. I guess that's only natural when you first step out of the game, having played against most players still going around, but e might need to check himself before making some comments.

And Nathan, FFS find a suit that fits properly. The tight suit look might make you feel macho but it looks stupid on the box.

maybe he hasn't bought a new one and the lack of preseason training is beginning to show :)

Flicked between MMM, 3AW and SEN last night.

Hamill was okay without being great. Offered some nice insight into St Kilda at times but his analysis of the game wasn't outstanding IMO.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

it's a beat up and a easy thing to talk about for commentators.

yeah I thought so to, however Buckley knows a bit more about the game than the average commentator. I heard the comment and made me think that there is a bit more to it when someone like a Buckley or a Carey says it.

yeah but the comment didn't really make sense

It was something along the lines he has poor awarness and if that Richmond player was half a step faster he would've been polaxed.

Now if Kosi had the best awarness possible and knew the player was there and that close would've he done anything different? No he wouldn't have and if he pulled up the commentators would've called him a wuss. He wasn't that step closer was he? So the comment to me didn't fit what was on the TV.

I like "Rapha" Clarke, actually.

Buckley was cringeworthy for the Dubai game, shouldn't be involved with the telecast on Collingwood games for this year at least, imo.

Dislike Bucks and Goldspink.

A good umpire should be almost unnotices, and should not impose his personality on the game.
He should be neutral, only speak to give instructions, and be fair.
Goldspanker was none of these.

As for Bucks.
Didn't catch his comments.
But even if they were inciteful, I think I dislike him too much to give him a go.

Evil Eddie is upset that he has to watch 7 to see the footy. How much more upsetting it must be for him to see his footy hero commentating for the enemy.

i thought Goldspink was alright on Friday night, and the fact that he could laugh at himself in the after match interview showed he doesn't take things too seriously

Not me, that really pyssed me off!

FWIW, I thought Buckley was no worse than any other ex-footballer with half a brain shoved into the commentry box. Ox is clearly the apex of the suckiness pyramid, and Figjam was at least better than that.

Who was the ex-North player boundary riding this weekend (I think Lions-Bombers)? Actually saw him grinning while describing a players hamstring injury.
