What would you sacrifice for a Premiership?

Post: # 509268Post linz »

This must have been discussed before & if so apologies.

A close friend of mine and I have been going to the football together (both Social Club Members) since the late '70's. We've been through the highs and lows together (mostly lows). Thank you beer.

I asked him last year what sacrifices he would be prepared to make if those sacrifices guaranteed us winning a flag.

As he is doing a higher degree course at Uni; he said he would repeat a year of study if it meant we would be Premiers.

I said I would sacrifice my yearly earnings (well above dole) for the same reason.

Mmmm the Incas come to mind. Maybe my youngest son can be sacrificed on the alter.

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

If we won a premiership, I'd get off the grog for 2 full years.
That would be my sacrifice, it'd probably add 2 full years to my life as well, but I'd take it for the team :)

I'm ready to do it boys, just raise that cup and after a week of self indulgance, thats it, no p!ss for 2009-10.

CUB and the home brew shop wont like it but my poor poor liver would love it

Followed Saints since '71
Sir Robert Harvey was my favorite player
Stewie Lowe and Plugger before that.
Loved watching Rooey and Jack Steven
Now looking forward to the future

Haha, yeah amazing the saints can do that to people..im not sure what i would sacrifice, but probably almost everything especially if i could be there in the ground as well to see the drought broken and the mighty saints go top. :D

I`m sure the MCG would have flash flood warnings at 5:45pm when we do it given all the heartbreak and sheer waiting through all these years. :P

I take it your separated/divorced gaz?

If not, your wife's car keys have probably disappeared from the basket near the front door, and the registrar of the local magistrates court has been called in for an after hours lodgement of divorce papers.

 :)

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

I'll give my right one...... we should donate them to the trophy cabinet down at Linton Street - at least it would be a matching pair!

Its an interesting question.. I was a football club member in 97 (not a social club member) and the ticket window for grand final tickets shut with 6 people left in the queue in front of me. I never got a ticket for the 97 GF - which in hindsight I'm thankful for (I'm still devasted we lost).

Anyway, every year since 98 I have bought a social club ticket as well so that I could get a seat at the GF if we made it. In 02 I moved the family to Adelaide and still continue to buy a full membership for myself and the family as well as Social Club tickets for all as well.

I normally renew pre-Xmas every year, but due to financial squeeze of ever more expensive Xmas presents for the kids , last year I decided to leave renewal until now.

So the question came up at lunch on New Years day - would I be prepared to NOT buy a membership if it meant that the Saints would make the GF ? .. what a dilemma !! ........

I would give anything to see the Saints win a premiership - but would the hurt of not being at the winning GF in person be worth it ? ..

I'd sacrifice my Mother In Law for just about anything, but for a Saints premiership I'd dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight.

Come to think of it....... I've already danced with my MIL.

Come On Sainters.... You owe me!

The heart says 1 in the next 5 years.

The head and common sense says 3 in 10-15 years time.

Can I have both the heart's and the head's wishes?

Did you know that Woman Hitler is an anagram of Mother in Law?

I don't know what I would sacrifice if we won the flag, but I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous.

Awww go on then! Take one now and three later....

I cant wait 10 years... well I may have to but I don't wanna know if it's the case! Bit like knowing when you're gonna die, I'd rather not know.

I'd definitely take 2 flags in the period 2013 to 2017. I'd sacrifice 1 in the next 5 years for 2 in the following 5 years [but want one of those in Year 6], but wouldn't be prepared to wait 10-15 years.

I would just take the 1 now & I would be happy for another 10 years. And then I would sober up.
