What do you want from a St. Kilda Board?

Post: # 450466Post Otiman »

With all the talk of a board spill and new ticket, i've got a few thoughts going through my mind as to what I want.

Here are my priorities, in no particular order.

- Ruthless, happy to stick it to the AFL when we get shafted.
- Take the Baker case to the next level, get him playing for Round 1.
- Get this training facility sorted and in development before the end of next year.
- Removal of the slogan "Believe of Bum" (sic) from the history of St. Kilda FC.
- I don't care whether there are links to past players or such.
- Paying off past players who took 7 cents in the Dollar or whatever it ended up being.
- More money spent in recruitment and development areas.
- Appointment of a football manager selected through "the process".

Can I add:

- No hidden agendas.
- Clear and open dialogue with members.
- No corporate spin langauage to hide flaws.
- Decisions made in the best interests of the club, not egos.
- No leaking of senstive material to media.
- A push to make members feel part of the club, not as people to siphon money off.
- To be active in the corporate market and to win key sponsors and drive our marketing further than before.
- To work harder than ever to boost our member rate into the top three in Victoria.
- To have our attendences in the top three in Victoria.
- To appoint staff who are capable of carrying out these intiatives, especially in issues of marketing, media and club-fan liasion.
- To be fair, open and honest.

That's what I'm looking for...

That will do me fine.

I'd also like the club to recover some ambition and put together a tangible plan for success, not just put out downright weird and somewhat scary claims like "We've never been closer to a flag than we are right now."

i'd settle for stability and sustained success. that doesn't necessarily mean a premiership.

what it means is finals football and hopefully a shot at a premiership. they're not easy to get ... 15 other teams want the same thing. you need luck with injuries as well as skill and talent and persistance. also patience ...

Everything evertonfc, riccardo and ottiman said.. plus;

a mentor system where a past player supports a new recruit/rookie through his footy career at the Saints.

Imagine a young bloke coming to the club and having someone like Burkie, Loewie or Harvs and having a 'big brother' of this calibre to help them.

Stability.

Strong and stable administrations lead strong and stable clubs.

And that is the pre-requisite to success on the field.

Dunno what the perfect scenario is- probably a board who appoints the on-field coaching/ recruiting personnel to win a flag and also who appoint a business group who runs the off-field business properly, and a board who can fight off endless half-wit challenges in order to keep stability...the current mob are not doing too bad actually. All the presidents in AFL clubs are ego driven, and RB is no different.

have experienced this feeling .......and really dont like it

(actually found myself wondering whether i should renew this year )

*************************************************************

one thing , given the experience of the last 12 months ..... that stands out to me ..........is the opinions in hindsight of our failures

much of what i read .....makes a lot of sense

but , the practicalities of performing and executing responsibilities of a given task demand staying in the present .........

so , could or should there be 1 person charged with the responsibility of solely 'looking to the future' ?

Interesting idea gazrat.

Kind of like an innovation or forward-planning manager ....

Your "big picture" person ...

An top class CEO will be able to do this, and it should be the role of the President also.

Look at anticipated trends ... try to be proactive.

These are four worthy priorities, IMO 8-)

Bump.

Early days it's true, but has the new board made the right noises in regards to our hopes as supporters?

Has the change of board left you pessimistic or optimistic about the future?

Do you feel there's been a shift towards a fan focus, a re-invigoration of our corporate profile and - perhaps most importantly - player development?

Be interested to hear perspectives, even at this very early stage.

Forget the board.

It's Archie Fraser we should be thanking.

Yet to be seen, I don't believe we have had any official dealings with the AFL as yet.
- Take the Baker case to the next level, get him playing for Round 1.
Wishful thinking on my behalf, i guess.
- Get this training facility sorted and in development before the end of next year.
Seems to be going to plan, but has been quiet since the initial announcement
- Removal of the slogan "Believe of Bum" (sic) from the history of St. Kilda FC.
This one was a bit tongue-in-cheek :)
- I don't care whether there are links to past players or such.
Happy with the Burke/Thompson involvement so far.
- Paying off past players who took 7 cents in the Dollar or whatever it ended up being.
Still hoping this can happen in our future.
- More money spent in recruitment and development areas.
Moreso in fitness rather than recruitment, but development with the appointment of a Ruck Coach and Casey Scorpions coach is on the right track.
- Appointment of a football manager selected through "the process".
Matthew Drain seems to be doing a good job.

1/ Note sure that any extra money has actually been spent yet other than the previous Board had already given authority to Archie to do, though hopefully some is starting to flow thru..

Most of the new Medical and Conditioning appointments occurred very quickly and so with normal time required for the process of talent identification and hiring most of thes appointments if not all would have occurred anyway. Certainly Misson was reported as likely to join us prior to RB going.

The club appointed Ross Smith and the AIS Committe some time ago to identify what we need to do...and it would be my guess that many of the new appointees in player conditioning have flown from their recommendations.

The extra ruck coach (we assume part time) may be the first actual extra????

2/ There seems different opinions and gossip on KS...some say he would have stayed if the old Board had stayed....but many seem to be of the view that KS was off anyway.... drain ceratainly joined quickly. so when was he first sounded out??? Certainly he was approached pre-RL originally but GT would not have him.

Still it is good that the changes have occurred and will continue to occur.

I am not knocking FF in any way....but I think some are a little quick to credit them for things that were well underway anyway.

As OWTS said above...lets give more credit to AF.

I am confident that FF will add value and create more stability.....good things from them should be coming our way.

Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
