Re: Ashes comments
Got to say, probably the most bizarre Test I’ve ever seen.
Momentum swings, collapses, bizarre bowling tactics both good and bad, dismissals and non dismissals, injuries, Stokes again…
Tho the Poms always find something to whinge about and appear to have very short memories!
You would have thought seeing both the Saints and Aussies get up would make for a pleasant evening… ha.
I’m cooked, time for bed!

Re: Ashes comments
The two controversial decisions by the third umpire showed that the letter of the law is not always the spirit of the game. The third umpire had little option but to give the first not out and the second as out. It was clear Starc had taken the catch cleanly and used the ball to cushion his fall rather than the back of his hand to avoid injury. It was equally clear that Bairstow thought the ball was dead and wasn't trying to take a run.

Re: Ashes comments
Bairstows gut was keen to get to lunch .
Carey was suss to it .
Professional cricketers especially a keeper ought to know the balls not dead straight away after its bowled.
Well played old bean .

Re: Ashes comments
Only losers talk about ‘spirit of cricket’
My take:
- Starc’s catch 99% out in park level cricket where there’s no cameras and no one would argue it.
Clean catch, but you can’t put the ball on the ground, you are taught to try and roll as a junior. So based on that it’s 50/50 as to whether ‘control’ was attained. If you slide like that into the rope it’s 4, do no issue with that.
- Unless over was called, it’s out. Not even an argument.
Stokes, Mccullum and the great unwashed can sook all they like about it. Amateur hour.
Perhaps Bairstow should worry more about his keeping and the 30 byes old symbols let through for the game.

Both were letter-of-the-law calls, but both were bad calls if put to the test of commonsense.

Re: Ashes comments
Is it true, as being reported, that Bairstow tried to run out Warner in the first innings in a similar way?
If so, then it's a bit rich for them to be complaining when it's done back.

The rules are conveniently right there, if they'd like to take a look. The Laws of Cricket is a code which specifies the rules of the game of cricket worldwide. The earliest known code was drafted in 1744 and, since 1788, it has been owned and maintained by its custodian, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in London.
It's not our fault Bairstow is oh so dopey (unlike our keeper).
Never again should our players be forced to walk through a crowd littered with the inbred drunks and abusive screeching hyenas in their long room.

Re: Ashes comments
Yep, there are a few videos going around showing Bairstow trying to do the exact same against Labuschagne AND McCullum doing the exact same thing in his NZ days.
Hypocrites? Surely not

Re: Ashes comments
Well, I was in danger of thinking players were being too nice to one another, laughing together about the colour of choices for new Porches bought after the latest Indian 20/20 season.

Re: Ashes comments
“I thought it was fair,” Cummins said.
“You see Jonny do it all the time. He did it day one to David Warner. He did it to Steve (Smith) in 2019. It’s a really common thing for keepers to do if they see a batter keep leaving the crease. Kez (Carey), full credit to him, saw the opportunity. I think he did it a few balls beforehand. He rolled it at the stumps, Jonny left his crease, you leave the rest to the umpires.”

They've never gotten over that first ever loss.
Least they (originally) took it in good humour.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Surely it is not unreasonable to do anything to defeat Collingwood.
