I wouldn’t phrase it as “walks out” just yet.
He has taken leave.

You can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

I think reality has hit Clarkson like a Mac truck and he can see his coaching cred going down the shitcan.

That unresolved mess from his hawks days wouldn't help.

I seem to remember some clown sprouting s*** that Ratts would never get another senior coaching gig.

Tell that to the roos.

Yeah right. You can't make chocolates out of boiled lollies.
I suppose you also believe that Donald Trump is law abiding citizen.

Don't believe many in this country believe that.

I think our average IQ is a tad higher than that in the good old US of A.

Bookies have Norf at very long odds to even make the 8.

Norf don't have many potential AAs.
Horne-Francis is one- oh wait a minute 🤣

Goldstein is a very good ruckman, I reckon as good as RoMa, and there's one or 2 others that are passable.

Zeibell reminds me of Michael Voss in his heyday in the way he struts, but I don't think he figures in oppo coaches' planning

Good luck to Ratts. He has his work cut out as far as the cattle goes, but he’s quite a good motivational coach.

Clarko has always liked to play the tough guy and portray himself as the pinnacle of mental toughness. Seems he's not as tough as he thought he was.

Focusing on your mental health is not a sign of weakness or lack of toughness

A) If things are/were effecting him in a major way… I would say asking for help or taking other steps to alleviate the effect is the sign of strength rather than weakness

B) We actually don’t know what he’s going through. It’s not right to judge

This was always going to be the outcome and the reason NM persisted and persisted and persisted when Brett was saying no and that he was moving on from football

The lead question was always why would Brett go to work with Clarkson after doing so at Hawthorn and having an opinion on Clarkson from that time?

Now we know

And Brett is very close to Betts who is involved in the Hawthorn situation offering support to those impacted

Join the dots

Ratts was there on a part time basis.

Ratten wasn't there as an insurance policy for the club

He isn't going to keep the role, even if Clarkson leaves permanently...and that's not because he can't fulfil the role

I just think Ratten is not stupid enough to take on a full time role for more than the remainder of this season

What if he's taking a break to clear the mind and hopefully have the hawthorn stuff brought to some solution before
He starts his role as the new coach of Carlton.

Nothing wrong with seeking help for mental health reasons. I think it's a good thing

Clarko's situation merely highlights the mythology built around AFL coaches, particularly of his type, and brings into question and the demands they make on young men and the other people around them.

It's an incredibly complex situation. Unless you have first hand knowledge of what is happening or what did happen it's hard to say who has been treated appallingly. Clarkson has done a wonderful job of portraying himself as the victim in all this. The reality is that no one has accused anyone of anything. Every indigenous player at the Hawks was interviewed by the club about 5 years after all this occurred as a result of what happened with Rioli. No-one approached the club and complained. They were asked about their experiences at the Hawks - on the condition of anonymity. The hawks filed their report on the basis of how they can get better. Once the powerbrokers at the club saw the seriousness of some of the things said about that time they self reported to the league. There's a massive difference between someone knocking on your door and asking you about your experience and going to authorities and reporting and accusing someone.

The 'accusers' as you have described them, have every right to refuse to be interviewed. When they were initially asked these questions they weren't to know that suddenly they would be subject to an AFL investigation. If any of their recollections are vaguely true, they have every right to not trust the AFL and their 'processes'. Why wouldn't you believe that the AFL are simply running the investigation so as to clear the name of arguably their greatest ever coach?? The 'accusers' never asked for any of this.

yep

Good luck to Ratts.

If he can get a few wins it gives him some much-deserved credit (even though no one really knows who deserves the credit - we don't care. It is sport, this credit business)

If accusers have the right to refuse interview

It opens an enormous complex situation

You honestly believe the bit about protecting Clarkson

..........

This situation would not last 2 min in court of law

Without other evidence

Isn’t that kind of the point though..? This isn’t a court of law. No one has been charged with anything. An investigation hasn’t been completed and no one is suggesting that it has.

The only court this has gone to is the court of public opinion and once again it highlights just how many people out there (in general, not referring to this discussion) have an overly inflated sense as to the value of their opinion.

The suggestions of misconduct sound very very serious but nobody should be condemning or protecting Clarkson based on the information out there so far. A formal investigation hasn’t been completed so how could one possibly make a reasonable judgement one way or the other.

The interviewed players have shared their experience… completely correct, embellished, way off the mark or out right lies or whatever… they’ve reported what they claim is their experience.

If there’s going to be an investigation, let there be one. All this talk about everything since then and how it’s played out in the media is ridiculous and pointless.

Not the time for victim blaming.
This episode brings no credit to the accusers, AFL, Hawthorn, Egan, ABC or media generally.
Awful lack of natural justice and unacceptably long delay.
AFL CEO is hopeless, needs to just go, not use this to boost his super.
Very dangerous precedents being set here.
