Cordy vs Owens

Post: # 2002727Post B.M »

Cordy 3+ quarters as a ruck forward

1 kick
5 HB
2 HO

Owens 1qtr as a ruck forward

8 possessions
3 HOs

Also when Bytel came on as Sub for Cordy - 6 disposals

Structure my arse - using a Gumby to fill a role will always get found out by good opposition. Bloke couldn’t run out of sight on a dark night!!!

Cordy is clearly not up to it, and is only there due to being the last man standing. Has a crack but that’s about it.

A half fit Membrey will offer more next week IMO.

To be honest, I’d rather play Bytel, Campbell, Sharman or Highmore.

I don’t see the positive contribution to the structure

Was recruited as a back up defender to replace Joyce.

Will probably be replaced by Membrey depending on how well he pulls up and trains during the week.

Would Tom Campbell have offered more

And really exposed their ruck deficiencies?

Need to turn their weakness into our strength imo

So you constantly say during the week that people defending him will scapegoat Cordy when we lose…….. then make a thread immediately following a loss to bag him. Again, who should have been playing instead today? It was a lack of options that saw him play.

Cordy's strength is his leadership up forward where we have little. With Membrey coming back and Owens able to hold down the 2nd ruck contests, I don't think he plays next week.

How’d he lead the forwards today

When he was subbed after 3 and a bit quarters - we were 6.4
Him being the worst performed

After that we kicked 3.6

And functioned better

Cordy might be given a reprieve if Caminiti gets pinged by the MRP.

Keeler plays over Cordy if available.

I think I gave and option in the OP - Owens

Or even the post directly before yours… Campbell

I’m not scapegoating him - he is the 23rd best player in the team

You don’t rely on your worst player

I’m just making a point - he is almost useless

Maybe as a back up defender he can justify being on the list
But otherwise a poor recruit

I said as much preseason after seeing him train

He was out of shape and presented poorly for an elite athlete

At least Darragh was a pro in the way he presented and trained

Keeler???

Hardly trained with the main group

Is not AFL fit

His last game was 6 months ago in the SANL U18s

Cmon

The question is do you really be wanting to ruck Owens?

I do not

So who gives Marshall a chop out?

King is the only injured walk up start with height

But he remains weeks away

We have several young players with height including Heath who does ruck (and contests) but do we go that course noting the return of Steele to our mod rotations?

The next few weeks will be interesting

Including Gresham, Higgins and Butler in the same side

That’s the thing though, he is a backup! He is playing due to injury to other talls. No one is saying to rely on him, but he is named because to play Marshall solo and rely on owens as a sole option if he goes down is super risky.

Campbell doesn't fit the structure unless Marshall goes down.

Owens plays ahead of at least 16 other players, regardless of position.

Hayes is the real replacement for Cordy, when all are available.

You can't carry any dead wood if you're fighting for top 4.

It is this.

Anyone who has been moderately involved in Aussie rules understands tucking is the most brutal place on the ground.

Lyon even called it out when asked about subbing Marshall. "Tell your kids not to play ruck"

Lyon would love to contend this year, but is a realist and building our list for next year and beyond. With that in mind you don't sacrifice your rolls Royce players as back up rucks.

Had we taken a similarly conservative approach with Kosi early in his career we may have a flag in my lifetime already.

Totally irrelevant to this discussion, but I agree you can't play all 3.

It's pretty clear by now Gresh isn't a midfielder. And without kicking goals or high score assists, he is VFL level sadly.

In a one goal game, it's Cordy (who you were sweating on) cops the heat. Perhaps look at others who let us down. The fancied, the over rated, the ones that, allegedly, may be worthy a FRDP...hello Jade, feel free to turn up at any stage during a game that matters.

Cordy will be replaced but what about the others?

What’s Cordy doing that Campbell can’t?

The same as if Campbell played in the first 5 games. Campbell is not Gawn or Grundy or English or Allen or anyone else you wish to imagine. Both are GOPs. The players injured can more than replace Cordy. Cordy was not the reason we lost to Collingwood, he will be scapegoated though.

Cordy was picked over Campbell because of his ability to provide a better forward option.

Picked over heath due to being AFL hardened.

Picked over members due to being match fit.

Arguably we lost this game in the forward line more than the midfield so can understand the selection.

You'll likely get your wish with cordy being replaced next week- doesn't make you anymore right this week.

Forward structure and leadership. Making sure players are in the right spots competing for the right contests.

Membrey back in the side provides this.
