It's all very well taking marks and kicking goals, but can he bring the ball down to the ground like our current backup ruckman?

Well, If Heath is picked and plays on the forward line, there won't be three opposition players for Caminiti to contend with, like Saturday night.

Cordy is an on field leader up forward and has been noted by the coach that he provides the experience in a young forward line. He would be hard to drop on that basis alone.

It will be interesting to see what happens if he keeps it up and hauls in another bag or two.

Is Max a ruck who can play forward or is he a forward who can ruck a bit?

I enjoyed the footage without giving that even a thought.

Encouraging from Heath, but to me he's 12 months away from playing senior football, at the very least. He needs to get stronger and fitter. His tank is about half of what it needs to be and he's still getting rag dolled by big bodied ruckmen.

I'm a big fan, but as Saintmike65 said, we need to be patient.

As I mentioned in a post some time ago. Geary when he announced his retirement last year, was interviewed about his views for the future of young players on the St Kilda list. I think that was the gist of the article. The article was on SEN afl site.
The headlines were something like, “Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid”. He was highlighting Max Heath, it was along the lines of when Heath grows into his body and it all comes together, opponents will be really challenged by Heath. Gears spoke of Heath’s fierce attitude and persistence. No doubt those qualities would impress our ex- Captain Courageous.

Realistically, who would Heath be competing with. In the current 22, that person is pbly Cordy. If he came in, he’d with the view of doing Cordy’s defensive/utility work up forward with patches of ruck relief.
So it’s a question of if he has fitness and knowledge to undertake the role and I’m guessing that the answer to that is no.

Certainly, it’s not about clear statistical indicators at the moment.

I watched a fair bit of the win by Sandringham over Essendon on Sunday and was very impressed with Heath's game, he was very serviceable in the ruck contests and took sone very strong grabs at CHF, has a beautiful kicking style from set shots on goal.

Question marks over his 'tank' did not appear to me to be founded.

From what I have seen of Max Heath in the practice matches and last Sunday in the VFL I believe he is a strong chance to make his senior debut this year.

I was told by a training watcher who knows Heath's parents that Heath has admitted himself he isn't ready for AFL yet and wants to continue developing at Sandy.

I get the feeling we will be lucky to see him this season.

He should be due for selection any week soon then?
