Melbourne missed Mac last year, but I have always said that it should have been phased out after each club has the opportunity to take a top 20 pick the same as clubs before them.

If it had of been a Collingwood or similiar missing out the AFL would have made the above allowances. Its never been an even playing field and never will be!

So you don't rate Melbourne missing out on academy member & #5 draft pick Mac Andrew in last years draft?

Or doesn't it sit with your AFL / St Kilda conspiracy narrative?

While Sydney and Brisbane can just pluck the eyes out of Qld and Nsw while also grabbing father sons.

Great system.

What happens if it gets to our pick, McKenzie is still there, and another club makes a bid?

Can we use points from our other picks to get McKenzie and then still retain our first round pick, effectively getting picks 10 and 11 in the process?

We can only do that if it’s outside pick 40
Otherwise we would need to use pick 9 or 10 as it will probably be.

We can pick him up with our first rounder but can only match for NGA players if they're bid on outside of the top 40. Last year was the top 20 so effectively we got a bonus being able to pick up Owens if you compare the rules with this year. We would have been able to bid on Windhager though.

We got a couple last year, but there are quite a few clubs that have been gifted talent in the top 20 via Academy picks prior to the restrictions. For example:

Tarryn Thomas
Isaac Quaynor
Liam Henry
Tom Green
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan
Braeden Campbell
