People Blame Lade for our woeful forward set up.

Post: # 1978549Post Rubyjo »

And he is the forward coach..But there are other coaches and the head coach who must either just accept what's going on and dont say anything or state in strong terms that it's not working. Which one is it?

The mid field coach should have a say on how the forwards are set up and how they recieve the ball from the centre..

No idea really.

Look either he isn't up to it or Max is our only useful forward. Or both.
Our scoring is in the pathetic category.
Trying to share blame still makes it pathetic.
If Ladey left, so what?

Butler, Higgins, Skunk.
They should be doing a lot more.
There's something seriously wrong with their inability to create enough scoring opportunities, and to capitalise on them.
They're certainly not elite or A Grade, but they do have some ability. They bloody need to work out tactics that work to their strengths.
It's one job of a coach

Adam Kingsley wanted Lade to join him at the Giants. Lade wanted to stay in Vic.

I'd stay unaccountable to results as well.

It's hard to imagine that "transition" between the three key areas is not discussed between the Line coaches and the Senior coach.

Lade is Ratten's last line of defence from going the way of every senior coach, other than Allen Jeans.

I'd love to see how our forward line would operate under Craig McCrae.

Pies haven't got much of a forward line, but they always look dangerous.

I guess the point I was trying to make ..was the midfield coach and the head coach must have a say on how the ball is delivered to the forwards ..has to be a wholistic approach where they all work together ..but if it's not working who is to blame .

Either he's responsible for it, or he needs to engage with those who are. By the look of it neither of those things are happening.

I think we all understand the connections but facts are the forward line looks in disarray
No cohesion players leading to sane space
It’s still got me **** when we are calling out for Sharman (who kicked 10 goals in his first 4 games) hadn’t been given a chance to gel with King/Membrey….it’s obvious..,
We decide to miraculously make him a defender??
Odd decisions

I know...wtf?

He held down FF without King vs Freo.
Dead rubber or not, he beat a quality defence to kick 4 set up another couple

Next season , what do we do?
Ignore him, then bring him back as a defender, or defensive, decoy forward.

Great thinking. Ratten intent on having a small forward line and having Max stand under F50 entries against 3 defenders. No wonder his body language is poor.
f****** stupid plan.

I was speaking to a couple of retired AFL player the other night at a function about how the Saints were travelling, and it was pretty much " some really good players, but jeez, you play some dumb footy as a team" or similar words, and mostly to do with how we play rather than how individual players perform. It is really frustrating for us supporters to see this, for others to see it. I hope next season sees a lot of changes and improvement.

I watched them last and they were f****** frustrating and certainly saints like in most of their forward thrusts.

Sadly yes that is the case.

Yes we lack some star power, but our biggest problem is as mentioned above "dumb football".

There are multiple issues why we don’t score enough:

- disconnect between mids and forwards
- lack of synergy between rucks and mids
- all mids have average to below average foot skills
- mids don’t kick goals
- slow ball movement
- inaccuracy in front of goal

Bloody miracle we won 11 games!

I’d start by getting King up the ground a bit and moving around.

A moving target that big and agile is a nightmare for defenders and if he’s on the move he’s hard to double team.

We look lost when he is stranded deep with three guys hanging off him.

Then there’s the matter of another key forward … a key-position sized one please.

As it stands it’s probably Hayes. If he’s deep and his role is to compete and bring the ball to ground if he can’t mark - which seems to have been King’s instructions - he can probably do that.

The other thing is much quicker ball movement. That gives forwards some space in which to operate, which is crucial.

I agree with that assessment. Footy, at AFL level, is a little like getting the clearest picture you can from an old black and white TV. It's about twiddling the knobs, ajusting the horizontal and vertical holds and fine tuning.

Giving it a whack and a thump serves no purpose other than venting frustration and risk breaking the entire complex machine.

Forward line is dysfunctional.. at best ... that is a direct reflection of the coach.
Players get in each others way
They have no system of kicking at goal
They are hap-hazard in approach

Yes there issues in transition between mids and forwards. The forwards need to demand the ball how they want it.

The mids bomb it long into a contest because the forwards have concreted their feet into the ground. Too often the forwards are static.

How come there is nobody in AFL world except the mentally insane suggesting Sharman is the answer to our forward line issues.

Don't know about Lade but the idea that the reason we are not kicking score is down to him isn't at all fair.

The forward line function is 90% dependent on upfield ball movement.

Beside the point
He’s the forwards coach
It’s broken
Hasn’t been fixed all year
He must go
IF he doesn’t this review is a joke
