Joyce, Have to Keep Playing Him

Post: # 1965499Post Vortex »

Has to play this week, and then keep playing him.

How will he develop at Sandy if we just keep giving him one game and then drop him the following week.

Joyce is the future.

Take the PI$$ much Vortex?

Joyce will be cut at seasons end.

Barring injury the key backs will be Battle, Wilkie & Highmore until Howard returns.

The board must go if Joyce gets cut without being selected and being left in the side to develop.

We need a replacement for Howard and Joyce should play even if he's way off the pace. Has showed some promise in the past so just needs to develop at AFL level because that's where he will develop best.

If you break down Joyce’s attributes, it’s surprising he hasn’t come on..he’s got height, strength, pace, can take a grab.
Maybe yet another player let down by our development guys.
Let’s face it he can’t do any worse than an out of form Howard…worth a try!

Was just looking at Lienerts Height/Weight compared to Joyce & he is taller & Heavier, plus a beautiful kick why not play him,he has shown signs when given a chance & could play other positions!

Exactly it's an indictment on Ratts. Needs to be selected and left in the side.

The board must go if Joyce doesn't get an extended run starting this week.

Yea yea, very funny Vortex, we all see why you’re doing.

One would just point out that the players in front of him have comfortably held their positions which are not in doubt… and their replacements are ahead of Joyce too.

A third point is that the comparison falls down because Coops has at least played games that suggest promise in his less than a year at the club whereas Joyce has been on the list for 7 odd years and has never shown much

Its a good attempt at a pisstake but the circumstances aren’t similar

I think Joyce comes in as a like-for-like for Dougal. Who’s going to take the resting ruckman? Highmore and Battle?

All Sharman did was get on the end of some cheap goals in dead rubber games which the opposition were happy to give him. Struggled in the new season badly. Has lots of work to do. Need to be cautious of overstating promise to suit a narrative.

Now if you want promise go back and watch Joyce hurl for Killkenny.

We would be stupid to cut Joyce. Unless we can we recruit Ben McKay from Noth. Otherwise Joyce stays as cover for Howard.

What are the match ups between Fremantle forwards and our backs?

It would be nice to just play Wilkie, Battle and Highmore but isnt
Lobb is 207cm, tough match up for them... Although, Joyce looked good the last time i saw him play for Sandy a couple weeks back.

Is slow, has the turning circle of the titanic and offers nothing below his knees, sum total equals limited defensive skills and gets exposed up the ground so finds it difficult to adapt to the 2 way running game. Needs straight lines to run and jump at the ball.

I don’t believe you rate Joyce

If a forward ‘getting on the end’ of some goals is an abject failure then I can’t imagine you’re keen on a seasoned defender that can’t punch from behind after 7 years

We have to be consistent with our narrative which is the board and coach must go for not gifting Sandy players an extended time at AFL because it's the best place for them to develop and morever because many forumites believe Joyce has showed promise.

These are the criteria being argued for Sharnan so why not for Joyce?

You don’t have to explain your point that much was obvious by the existence of the thread. Subtle as a truck.

Where you’re off kilter is that the key backs have performed whereas those Coops are competing with haven’t, the replacements in Lienert, Highmore etc are ahead of Joyce, and Joyce has had 7 years on the list and has seldom had people suggesting he should come in... including the coaches themselves
By contrast, less harsh critics think Coops has at times looked ok for a 10 game forward.

It’s an inadequate comparison and doesn’t hold up.

But of course you already know all that… hence the absurdity of you arguing against people that believe in player A, arguing for player B that even you don’t rate. It’s a waste of time and your point doesn’t land. Conviction vs lack there of

The broader issue as has been brought up before, is why you’re going to such lengths to dump on an emerging young player that people see promise in.

The obsession here Vortex is yours. Not the other way round. The pro Coops group are not nearly as strong in their convictions to play him as you are in yours to suggest that he’s a write off.

I’m sad that you can’t see it.

Hopefully the kid can earn another opportunity.

Joyce too. You’d think with Howard out, and Ratten so keen to share opportunity as you pointed recently, Joyce would be primed for his shot right?

He will surely get it now one would think.

Edit And for the record
Coops kicked 10 goals in 4 games in a team that didn’t play finals
These occurred against Geelong at skilled, Sydney, a loss to Carlton and 4 against Freo (who were playing for a final spot).
Not too bad for a skinny kid with less than a preseason playing in the hardest position on the ground. It’s a little bit more than just getting on the end of a few pieces of play

Joyce has deserved a game simply because he has been consistently playing well at Sandi & Howard had been woefully out of form. It seems some players in the AFL side are like the Australian Cricket team, they are not dropped until they are injured? Or perhaps the team selectors have little faith in exposed VFL form?

Needs to develop for another 6-8 years in VFL and even then probably needs to give up a kidney before I’d play him.
I have full unbridled faith in Ratts and the club with his development.
I trust in Ratts.

I haven't written Sharman off, I'm just objective about where he's at and I'm not calling for board and coach to be sacked because he's not getting a game.

On a side note I encourage to watch the replays of Sharman's first few games, especially the Geelong game, he is very one dimensional with zero defensive side, he can't survive on clutch goals lone and has a lot of work to do. Take off the fan boy spectacles and you might see it.

Before the season started many on here identified the need for another key defender.

The list manager clearly saw it differently and has a plan to cover an injury to a key defender.

Now we will see that plan.

Excellent analogy…for some reason Howard is over rated within the club.
Why have a player in the leadership group that frequently has a crack at teammates to deflect his own deficiencies.
Apparently Port supporters described him as ‘flakey’, not a bad summation.

To be fair he has played some decent footy af the club, just not for the majority of this year. I agree re blaming his team mates for his own lack of effort, smacks of double standards that Ratten should have addressed.

Good post
The constant potting and ruling a line through a 7 game young forward is embarrassing
The kid hasn’t even had a proper run at it but some are calling for his head and hanging the Swans defeat at his feet
Mindless drivel and moronic but par for the course when dealing with lower intelligence
