AFL funding totals released

Post: # 1941152Post Impatient Sainter »

Wow I knew we were being financially supported by the AFL but I didn't realise to that extent.

This is something that I’ve generally stopped caring about

The AFL provided all manner of concessions to the expansion teams, which screwed us

The bigger clubs get more home games and marquee games which makes it easier for them to grow, attract higher profile players etc

The AFL need us. Let them compensate us for the advantages that we’re deprived of.

We agreed to take on a shocking deal at the Docklands in order to get the AFL out of a bind there, which virtually bankrupted the club, so the trade off was they agreed to help our bottom line.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

We've played 5 home games in front of crowd in the last two years. The least of any club.

We're almost up there with Gold Coast and GWS, we might be a prime candidate for Tassie if the AFL wants to cut back on it's handouts.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Those who like to complain about Gill should stop and reflect.

Yes plus they owe us for years of a crappy Marvel stadium deal where we packed the joint and paid it off for the AFL.

Exactly
The fact that the afl owned the stadium ( thanks to the Saints , bombers , dogs and roos and to a lesser extent the blues .) enabled them to get a squillion dollar loan from the banks which kept the comp going strong the last two years .
Plus the fixture manipulations which ensure record crowd numbers each year . Of course record numbers mean big bonuses for the boys in head office.

Essendon is complaining ... the WADA-sanctioned team lucky to have remained in the premier competition.

Love how the whingers will constantly complain the AFL (and Saints supporter Gill) are conspiring against us while at the same time handing us buckets of cash to stay afloat.

Shallow analysis?

Separate expenditure/funding on running costs v facilities. Note expenditure from taxpayers e.g. to Geelong, West Coast, Freo that is not shown to get better comparisons.

Value of draft concessions? Or losing them in a skewed draft year?

Value of a premiership? Stadium deals comparisons? Value of having locked in "blockbusters"?

How much to service debt effectively imposed on clubs like Saints?

Standardise by recurring and capital then divide by 10 to see annual differences rather than headline a "$100m differential" from a random set of 10 year figures.

And possibly reflect on the purpose of equalisation. Do the journos and officials implying these figures show unfairness want a 6 team competition.

Might also show projections for next 10 years and then how that would be diluted by a Tasmanian team.

Of course, having raised those points clearly all the money spent on Suns has been a waste. Not like the blue chip investment in a foundation club like the Mighty Saint Kilda FC.

Am I remembering this correctly..?

Didn’t the club under the early years of the GT/Butters era essentially wipe out our debt around 2004? Then post Butters we racked up like $15m

..
Good points all.

We also got a chunk.
St Kilda also got 13million from the State Gov for Moorabbin, 3.5 mil from Frankston City and 3 from the State Gov for Seaford...

Only one choice...

Buy the JO!

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!
