He was a big gamble. The gamble failed.
The gamblers responsible have gambled using the club's future.
They should be held accountable.
No more gamblers.

Well, I get that too.. But admitting it is not a rational choice…skeptic wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 5:04pmI get what you’re saying but the optics to me look way worse this way.shanegrambeau wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 4:41pmskeptic wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 4:16pmThe most soul crushing part of the whole online forumThe_Dud wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 2:40pm “We believe Dan has the capacity to be an extremely influential player for us at the Saints,” Lethlean said before the trade period in 2018.

Thorough... lol
Either they’re
A) outright lying and treating the supporters with contempt
B) morons
I guess A is preferable
…..But don’t give me BS and call it ice cream
They can’t say anything honest unfortunately.
It’s all ‘optics’
Not their fault.
I admire the leadership these past two weeks..
They emerged last week on the side of honesty, (in admitting the dissonance about Seb Ross) , and what did they get for it?
Outer sh#t pile of bile…..
If I was going to withhold my membership it’s because management are morons that not only do moronic things but are too dumb to know how moronic they’ve been, hence being highly likely to do things that are more moronic than that.
If they came out and gave me a sign that they know they stuffed up…
At least then I know there’s a lesson learned that won’t be repeated
If they quit or are voted out they have a ‘bad reputation’ along with the ‘admission of guilt’ to carry them forward ..
That is worse than the usual ‘suspicions’ that can’t be pinned to anyone in particular. Moreover, the press will cherry pick sound bites of this ‘confession’ and make memes out of it as they are encouraged and rewarded for doing.
If they stay, they will be held accountable to that confession next time the inevitable f/up occurs, as they tend to do.
Either way, they lose.
How many people will buy a new membership because the current crop have impressed with honesty by openly admitted they screwed up?
I know that it’s common sense, so I’m just labouring the obvious - better to say nothing, live to fight another day.
Honestly betting on it, you’d still give Hannas a chance to have somewhere between half to a full season over the duration of his contract, and half a dozen decent games.
The AFLs money, misappropriated but it gave St Kilda some cause for hope, for at least three weeks, about three years ago.
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Hannebury injury
I’d have taken the risk on Hannebery also
And would’ve conceded it didn’t work out
Risk versus reward

Not for the money plus draft picks. He was broken, his club wanted him gone. We could have got him for a Treloar type deal but we are St Kilda, we are desperate, we have an allegiance to Old Xavs, apparently.

There are smart risks, and there are dumb risks.
This was a dumb one from the start, everyone could see it.

Re: Hannebury injury
…for sure, but again I reiterate, what can the leadership say? What actual language can the6 use? Tell me the words and I’ll give you a headline that will do nobody any good.bangaulegend wrote: ↑Wed 23 Jun 2021 7:57pm
Yep even blind Freddy but obviously not our footy department
The only winners are the grinning fat cats in media land lapping up the milk we are pouring for them.
‘Saints Admit Fiasco”
“Saints Chief says, Sorry…then denies other mistakes”
“‘Saints were Sinners’ admits St Kilda chief.”
“We lost the plot” says club insider, but won’t admit details.
“Club imploding”, says insider at Moorabbin.”
Once they - the media - get a whiff of blood they will go for the kill, car stopping other players, digging, looking for a conspiracy, looking for ‘systemic favoritism and nepotism”.

Re: Hannebury injury
It's actually more stupid and immoral and fraudelent, on the back of the club's gamble on Freeman.
The Pies have a shedload more money than us, therefore much better access to world-class medical knowledge.
Yet our guys thought they could cure him.
You'd think we'd have learned not to take damaged goods. Especially when Freezer was so young and Hannas was much older with only a coupla yrs left in his chassis.
I don't believe it was blind faith, I think it was the other reason. In my opinion.
You know what I mean.
(Don't want to risk the forum getting hit with legal action for libel)
A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

Re: Hannebury injury
Seriously, a player passed his prime, injured, & a known party boy. you would have taken him on huge money for a minimum of 4 years?
i would have waited a year and then reassessed to see if he got his body right. that isn't hindsight being 20/20 it is common sense. You dont get injured, old players for big money. Take Frawley for example, his one year experiment didn't pan out so thanks for coming, no hard feelings and no real impact on the clubs finances. That's a worth while risk. We still have another season of Hannebury being two week away.

Re: Hannebury injury
Yes, it was high risk
But we had plenty of room in the cap, and no one to spend it on, it cost little in the way of DPs (if anything?) and he was only 27
However, as it turned out, it would have been a poor decision.
Without risk sometimes, there is no reward
We should have also taken the risk with Cousins in 09 IMO
Hawthorn took a risk on a bloke with a f***ed knee at a similar age
10 years and three premierships later, Shaun Burgoyne is probably their greatest ever recruit

Re: Hannebury injury
Lethlean could earn a modicum of credit back (given he got the Saints into this situation) if he can convince Dan that he should retire at the end of this season.

Re: Hannebury injury
I actually think it has cost plenty. This rubbish we had to spend the money, front end the players we had on the list we valued. If there's nothing worth buying, don't buy anything.
We have only shown desperation and stupidity. I'm not sure what that attracts but I'm sure it ain't good.

I agree with you about Cousins. Harvey out, Cousins in.B.M wrote: ↑Thu 24 Jun 2021 4:16pm Yes, it was high risk

Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.
