He’s just not as fit as he was when he was winning B&Fs

You can see he has a gut

He (along with Isaac Smith and Blicvas) was the best runner in the game - now he’s not.

Caleb Daniel doesn’t defend plays across HB.

BM

We know Hill is an outside type.
However what's a non-negotiable is - players Must hold their ground.
Not a good look to stick an arm out or dodge contact.
It's a contact sport, including laying the occasional decent tackle.

Which wingmen in the AFL have high tackle numbers?

He isn’t good at it, yes

But his primary job is to run to receive and then deliver

He’s not Lenny Hayes!!!

He’s not an inside mid

He is the epitome of an outside player, he’s not even someone who could go inside for periods, he’s entirely outside! which is fine, because you need outside run and class

Which is why recruited him
We have Steele, Ross, Crouch, Dunstan, Bytel, Hannebery, Jones and Gresham to play inside.

We have Billings, Hill, Sinclair and maybe Clark who can receive, run, carry and deliver.

I think we expect him to be something he’s not, he’s an elite runner with skill that’s it.
Then why are we playing him off the back flank?

If you’re playing in the backline you have to be able to defend and win one-on-ones occasionally, both things he is hopeless at.
Good point you raise Dud. Hill was struggling on the wing so they moved him to the backline. The directive from Ratts didn’t change though. He still wanted all players to ‘look’ for Hill and give him the footy when he’s free.

I made the comments about Hill being an outside player and was just comparing him to our other outside players and I wanted to raise the point about how Sincs got his touches versus Hill. I think it’s significant as they both play similar roles

They’ve dropped Long because he doesn’t get enough touches apparently. JFC!! If the coach said; “Handball to Ben at every opportunity” watch how many possessions Long will get.

He started the year as a wingman but that’s not where he’s playing the last six weeks

LOL - but the Dare Sainter of the Round only got 2 votes - which I think is indicative of what he should have - he was good and if he had converted at a better rate would have deserved the 5 - but Steele, Crouch and Members WERE better.

HBs

The most unaccountable players in the AFL

They let their opponents go up to the footy and sag off (zone) and look for a chance to run and create without a defender.

Unless he is tagged, Caleb Daniel wouldn’t know what number his opponent is!!!

Comments about Hill not playing wing and going to HB and inference made that as a defender should be tackling more.
