Interesting

To throw a spanner into the works, in assessing the performances of Australian players I look to Ashes performances because of the consistency of the competition home and away and the regularity of that competition both of which provides more meaningful appraisal tools

Look at those averaging over 40 with the bat because that is telling

There are many International players of high reputation who toured Australia rarely

And there were (and remain) Nations Australia rarely tour

Pakistan on matting on the way back from the UK in 1956 - and cleaned up a side then rebuilt for South Africa in 1957 under Ian Craig

Which Benaud inherited because of Craig’s health issues in 1957/58
