Recruiters

Post: # 1877689Post older saint »

I must say They Got It Right.

For years they haven't but looking at the B & F they clearly did.

Clark, Coffield first round early picks.
Howard, Ryder, pick 10 and 4th rnd for 12, 18 3rd round 2020 - WIN
Butler - Pick 56 - WIN
Jones +56 (Butler) and 4th rnd 2020 for 32, 76 and 3rd rnd 2020 - WIN

hopefully this year will see more wins- probably less activity but trades of Quality.

I was sceptical about a few of the pickups over the off season, but they well and truly proved me wrong, especially Paddy and Butler.

Hopeful we pick up another young gun in the off season.

The biggest wins are through FA. As everyone knows, they don't cost you draft picks. I know some people are skeptical about Crouch but the fact that he will not cost a draft pick overrides that. We should outbid the inbreds at Geelong and get him. We keep hearing that we have this warchest of money so front load his contract. eg. if he acepts $800k for 5 years then give him $1mill each for his first 2 years and then that only leaves $2mill for his final 3 years. Once that is done we can then use our first on Caldwell and anythiong else after tha is a bonus.

We nailed a lot the last 3 years. It's why we finished 5th.

Got the moneyball picks and drafting fine.
The two big ticket trades on the other hand.....

In this very non-exact science of Recruiting, our recent success indicates that for the first time in many years, our new recruiters know their game.

Let's hope that good decisions can be made again this year ........ and luck is with us.

Our ladder position and upward direction will be a big advantage in this recruiting task.

Agree.

"Clark, Coffield first round early picks."
Two points.
1. Ratts really seemed to develop both of them.
2. The previous year (Billings, Acres, Dunstan) had higher and more picks but somewhat underwhelming outcome.

Also now feel that they know what they are doing. Didn't get that impression with Trout.

The value from our picks last year was elite.

And finally I remember watching Brisbane's recruiting in the years before Lethal Leigh arrived. They just kept adding exceptional talent for about 3 years. And then.......

Nothing better than a good Dad Joke.

We did end up with a better team balance and obviously improved overall, and papered over a few holes.

Then there's Brad Hill, Acres , Hanneberry? ... a bit of a mixed bag and paying way overs?
We have also recruited too many "smalls" ... and missed out on young, elite-skilled midfielders.
It used to be too many halfback flankers - now it's smalls.

We need to land a young, elite-skilled inside/outside midfielder or two - priority number one.
Our recruiters need to concentrate on that.
This has been our greatest need for a while - they are long overdue on delivering young, highly-skilled playmakers/midfielders/ball-magnets.
Bytel looks promising, but appears to be "too static/inside/handbally?" ... (we need metres gained).

Let's hope they wake up and finally get it done!!
