Nice work Saints.

If we were taking the picks to the draft I’d be dubious, given it appears we will trade them I think it’s a great move and opens up opportunity.

Would they take #18 back for Bonar?

So is it:
1. coincidence ? or
2. was it always part of the Saints plan to get Hill by offering 2 first rounders , or
3. did Freo get a sniff this was happening and make the ask public to try and snaffle both those picks
I can't imagine that we are going to give both 12 and 18 to Freo - why would Freo take them after knowing that we got a free pick 45 for the trade - why would they not see it as the same as pick 6 and therefore no benefit???
It does not sweeten the deal if I go to the shops to buy an $50.00 item and rather than giving them $50.00 I give then 2 x $20.00. That only works on 5 year olds!
We haven't got a free pick 45. The points difference between pick 6 and picks 12 and 18 combined is the equivalent of pick 45. The only reason that freo would accept picks 12 and 18 instead of pick 6 is that that they have an academy kid Liam Henry who is going to be subject to bidding at some point in the first round and this way they could have him and another first round pick, however they could have had this with pick 6 and make up the points for the bid with their 2nd round pick/what they get for Langdon.

In short, I have no idea what is happening now!

I think they want 18 for something other than Hill - possibly Howard.

Don’t overate his performance he has yet to show us his best but he must be coached properly & played in position his build and tank do not grow on trees, I agree his time is next year & I have no doubt he will fulfill his potential hopefully with us!

Yes Mr Name  - I know we don't get a pick 45 - but in terms of trade value we have more points etc - mayhap I did not explain - but the point was not the pick 45 - but more - why would Freo be more likely to take 12 and 18 when they could have taken 6 and done exactly the same - leaving them with the points that equate to pick 45 "in the Bank"

With all due respect SMS, I would NOT like to see a St Kilda side which continues to include the likes of Geary, Webster and Savage who to me are relics of an unsuccessful past and need to be moved on from plus I have serious doubts on Hind and Parker (including because I believe we have better options)

Plus I have a question mark over Ross despite his CV (just 22 goals from 124 games plus can we select Ross, Steele and Dunstan in the same side noting Steele tackles and handballs and Dunstan is "in and under" so of more team value than Ross?).

And Carlisle is a genuine outer defence KPP, not an accountable last line KPP. You are taking away his strength of intercept marking.

Added to that, Coffield is genuine CLASS, as with Clark and they will be our 2 mid sized defenders with (hopefully) Roberton, then Battle and a contest between Austin, Claravino and Howard on the last line.

And, we only have ONE King on our List.

Yep bold move but well played.

Hopefully we get Hill done, He really is the big ticket item here.

Pick 12 for Hill seems bang on to me. Not sure Freo will see it that way. Clever splitting of picks by us either way.

What does Savage have to do to demonstrate his worth.
Had a great year. Couple of games he kept us in it.

Unfair on Savage who had a really good year.
Not sure what he has to do to get some
appreciation on here

Fantastic to see.

I reckon we will go 12,18 to Freo in exchange for Freo pick 27 which goes to Sydney for Jones.

Even if we end up taking 12 & 18 into the draft I'm still happy. This years draft appears quite shallow and I reckon it's a crap shoot between 6-12-18. Now we got two chances to stuff it up, or more positively two chances to pick up a good kid.

Is everyone forgetting that we still need to use at least 3 picks in the National.Draft?

If we are trading in players for all these picks then we are gonna have to trade out to get picks back to use

Unless of course we use picks 80 100 120

Ouch!
Bell has really screwed up here.
Whether we end up getting him or not, I'm pleased that we stuck to our guns and refused to get intimidated into a bad deal.
We are offering Hill overs for salary to get him here, where Essendon and Pies or Tigers seem to get players coming on reduced salaries....then we get this extrapolation that we obviously value him at 900k ...We should give 2 first round draft picks.....So we get screwed both on the trade and on the salary pay out.

Granted Savage played very well v Fremantle - but look at his follow up games and then you see where I have my reservations

As I have put on here before, I have always been of the school that you build from defence - hence delighted with Coffield and Clark, with the reports on Roberton (who is equally adept off both feet unlike many these days) and with the way Battle has presented himself. Then you have Carlisle plus looking for a last line KPP defender - so Austin, Claravino and now possibly Howard

These resources - plus Wilkie - put a line thru Savage (and Webster, McKenzie and other flank defenders on our List

Each of Carlisle, Roberton, Clark, Coffield, Battle and Austin are excellent users of the ball so offensive weapons coming out of defence

Plus we can disrupt by pushing Battle forward

So that is my rationale

Have really enjoyed your posts on team/list as of late TTT. Agree with this one wholeheartedly
