Phillips?

We must have watched a different game?!

Long I can understand.

Long out, Gresham forward, rotate a mid and bring in white

Either Hind or Robbie Young needs to be rewarded.

Hind has done a lot, lot, lot more than Young to deserve a senior game.

Phillips has plenty of upside and should stay in, but Long needs to go back to VFL. White is going great at Sandy, so he should get a game. Just worried that too many of our experienced players have gone off the boil and are not bringing their A game- doing occasional good things doesn't add up to a winning effort.

That is what you get from inexperienced players at the end of the day, we are missing too many experienced guys atm.

All the same, it will hold us in good shape down the track.

He was ok but IMO he's not at the level required just yet. I think Long needs a stint at Sandy to get a bit of form back so I'm saying Long & Phillips out Hind & Clark in

Confuse our opposition. They would be planning for the same old line up and the same old game plan

Don't let them settle and don't makes things easy for them. Let them earn the victory instead of it being handed to them

Play some bigger bodies in the middle like Joyce, Battle, Membrey and Acres

Play Ross off the bench and give him stints deep forward as a crumber. If Long and Kent and Parker all play then give them each a role of knocking out one of their star mids. Doesn't matter if it's Gary Ablett Jnr style with a forearm to the head collision or whether it's a pile drive forward tackle with their arms pinned and their heads buried deep into the MCG turf.

Make a statement against their ruckman early and just unleash ...or should that be....Release the Billy Longer Kraken

I would consider Longer as main ruck, with Marshall up forward (and 2nd ruck) with Membrey as 3rd tall forward.
Bruce (best game for a long time vs WC), Marshall and Membrey up forward would give us a strong attack.

To consider playing Longer is to gift Grundy a BOG in a dominant game

Grundy is just too mobile for Longer - in fact every other ruckman in the competition is

So we have exclusive reliance on Marshall

It is a case of who lends support - because Bruce is our only other tall and without him in attack we have no forward target (with all respect to Membrey but he needs the right opponent as in out marking Hurn)

Neither Battle nor Brown are rucking options

So who is left?

This is where our unavailable list including Carlisle and Mc Cartin really hurts

It means we have no options - no flexibility

In regards Phillips he got his hands on it - but was unable to use it to any advantage and, indeed, to our disadvantage

Long and Parker were poor. As was Newnes and as was Ross because he lacked what Dunstan bought to the contest - then there was his disposal (given he runs and bounces why no impact on the scoreboard - ever?)

So we continue to turn players looking for the next Marshall, Wilkie, Battle and Paton

Joyce is the interesting one to me and I would be giving him a run at it - with Brown in the side

He has the pace to play on tall and short - and his run and disposal are promising

Could be another Max H - but quicker

The player we really miss is Number 3 - so we trust he is in the position to expand his focus from what is absolutely important to him and us correctly all consuming to also include a commitment to the footy club and playing footy

Every day you get a bit stronger so the day will come at the right time for Jack and those who rely on him

Jack is in the fortunate position of having a supportive employer

Some in his circumstances are not so fortunate

So that is a small win - not that he may currently recognise it

From actually seeing the Sandy game it would have to be Young. We need some one who can hit the score board at that is Young.
Hind is not far away but I think we need a forward more than a back.
Also Hunter was really good but Id give him more time to really get his confidence up.
Sad thing is that Coffield played and I didn't notice him at all

Out Long - In Longer

Put the knee into Grundy at every opportunity - they can take it turns

Marsh in for Newnes (unless Parker needs a rest) - play him on the wing

Out: Long & Newnes

In : Longer and Hind

I agree with an earlier post, start Marshall forward and let Billy jump in and hurt Grundy.
Billy can just stand at full forward and bring the ball to the ground for Kent, Billings and Gresh to feed off when he needs a rest.

Wouldn't it be fxxxing hilarious if we have our biggest bloke on the ground paroling deep forward and the team start lowering their eyes and doing dinky kicks for the small forwards to mark. That'll be ok if they're leading and if it works, but when Marshall is down there, you have to just send the footy up high to his advantage and let him do the rest.

Same if Longer gets an opportunity and he's rested forward at any stage. Bomb it high and instruct Billy to compete with Kent, Gresh and Ross eating the crumbs

Agree with you there, only concern I have is that Marshall is not the best mark overhead, however will at least half the contest and bring to ground.

He has a 'very interesting' overhead marking style if you look closely. Sometimes just extends his arms and hopes for the best. 🙌

Next you'll be saying he shuts his eyes when he goes up for a grab and yells 'boo' to his opponents

Hah?

I was making a point, watch him closely if you don't believe me.

'Boo'! Whatever that means?

Most times he is scragged, arms held, opponents hands over his neck and over his shoulders and yet he takes good contested marks

Watch him closely when he takes marks uncontested and they won't look as bad

Elliott out (hamstring), Cox still in doubt, will impact out thinking on ruck options.
