(And played so far from civilization too. A little known fact for Saintsationalists to use at their next trivia night: Every car in Western Australia comes fitted with a flux capacitor. So that they can drive across the Nullarbor to Melbourne..............and back to the future. )

Saints keen to involve Rodger in board role

After an extremely disappointing 2018 season, the AFL's current second-placed team St Kilda is one of the feel-good stories from the early part of the season.

With the Saints' future outlook looking rosy all of a sudden, club president Fred Bassat has revealed that the Saints are keen to get legend Rodger Fox more involved at the club.

Rodger is famously a St Kilda fan, and even played for the Saints' side prior to capturing the hearts of a nation while donning the Baggy Green for Australia (in the backyard at mum’s).

Speaking on the In the Game with Damian Barrettpodcast, Bassat described Rodger as a supporter who was keen on helping the club.


Bassat praised Rodger for offering to help out at the club at all times.

"We’re actually fortunate, there’s a range of people that have sort of started to engage with the club, Rodger being one of them, who are passionate about the club, who want to help," Bassat said.

"So Rodger’s already been helpful to us when we ask and so getting him to renew his johnny membership would be great. So don’t forget to vote in that poll Saints’ fans. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=97552 “

The Saints are no strangers to bringing on stars from rival codes to help out, with former Melbourne Storm great Billy Slater joining the club in a coaching role this season.

When questioned about what Rodger's role could potentially look like, Bassat flagged a potential role on the club's board.

"Oh look, possibly (on the board). It’s not something that’s been discussed in detail but I think Rodger’s both a very smart person and a very capable person," Bassat said.

"Obviously his sporting brain is quite incredible <swoon>, so if we can get him more engaged in one capacity or another, we’ll certainly consider that for sure."
