It was a pleasure just to watch him train. His skills were amazing by hand or foot, both sides of the body.

That mark at 0:47 from 1987 vs Essendon is one of the most underrated ones I can remember. He climbed up onto Simon Madden's shoulders to take that one.

Yes was there that day and still the best mark I have ever seen live.
What about the goal at 5.07 and the passage of play at 30.30?

WHAT A PLAYER!!

I loved Plugger but Winmar was my favourite

IMy memory maybe be hazy but after he took that mark on Maddens head the crowd applauded for about 30 secs to a minute - the footage doesn't do justice to actually how high he was

And thanks for posting the footage

That was right in front of me about 10m away and etched forever into my memory, a travesty it wasn’t captured properly on film it would be the most played footage ever the leap and clean grab were incredible...

Forgot how immediate his impact was. Runner-up for B&F in first two seasons! Loads of goals. Then B&F '89. 1990 Dermie got him worked up, 10 matches suspended, but boy what an amazing career. We shouldn't have got rid of him when TWatson came, but alas easy to say now. Bless the great Nicky Elvis Winmar!
I was taking a piss at the MCG on a Friday night when we were getting hammered against Essendon. Came back and my mate said, 'Wow, you should have seen it"

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Winmar was a freak was there anything he couldn't do?
Seriously.
Pace, Agility, Balance, Both feet, Could torpedo a 60m plus goal, could weight a pass brilliantly to a leading forward like Harvey and Dal Santo could, both feet, Aerial marking genius and a ferocious tackler he is the perfect footballer really. I dont think he had one weakness. I am serious.

I loved him with Plugger that era they made it just so special to be a Saints supporter.

Met him once and gave him a big hug before the 2009 GF and told him I loved him and that today has to be our day & we both stood a second staring at each other and whilst 1 is a legend of our game and another was a nobody supporter his powers had diminished to a retired player no different to me turning up as a spectator willing &wishing for a premiership.
Alas it didnt happen but I will chersih that one moment I had with Neil Elvis Winmar..

Maurice Riolli and Nicky Winmar. IMHO, the two best indigenous footballers that I've seen.
